The Character Build Showcase: The Songbird

  • Happy Easter guys - and here goes with another of our Character Build Showcase features.

This week, Ponty has chosen The Songbird by new builder Zach. Here's Ponty's blurb about this build:

The Songbird is the first build by Blog member Zach, a relatively new builder that sets an impressive standard. This build is all about agile melee combat, using a range of abilities ranging from staves to shouts to avoid being hit while dealing out tons of damage with a scimitar or two. The strong lore backing makes it a good read, and the unique playstyle is definitely something to enjoy if you're looking for a build to play. I for one look forward to more of Zach's work in the future!

I've had a look at the build, and it is soon very clear that Zach has thought this build through from the ground level upwards. There is a strong and coherent lore background, a well thought out tactical strategy, together with a fully developed series of gameplay tips, special moves and more.

Here is an excerpt, where we see Zach giving some of the lore background

None know when the Songbirds where formed, not even the Songbirds themselves. What is known is that a number of Altmeri street performers from an age long forgotten became utterly fascinated with the hawks of the Summerset Isle at some point. These hawks, although not completely correct, became known as the “Songbirds” to these minstrels (due to the amazing musical qualities of the birds' calls). In time these particular bards began to call themselves “The Songbirds”. They created a unique style of performing and fighting inspired by the hawks.

The signature fighting style of the Summerset Songbirds is based around the use of curved swords. The reason they use curved swords is that the curve represents the hooked beaks and claws of a hawk. It is so sacred to use a curved blade to the Songbirds that if one of them is caught using a blade that is not curved, that individual is exiled from the Songbirds. The only exceptions are daggers. Songbirds may carry daggers, and they do not have to be curved.

If you are looking for a somewhat different way to play an Altmer, aside from the usual pure mage archetype, then I recommend taking a good look at The Songbird.

Very Happy to see this build hit the showcase. Zach is actually the person who inspired me to make my two builds on this site. Congrats! I had tons of fun with the songbird and I hit level 44 a couple of weeks ago.

This was the first build I liked after I returned to the site.  Really great work, Zach.  Getting pretty close to category 80, too.
