The Character Build Showcase: The Heart of Pellitine

  • We're back with another superb example of character builds that we showcase each week. This week, Ponty has chosen the Heart of Pellitine from Vix. Here's what Ponty has to say

The Heart of Pellitine, a superb build by resident loremaster Vix, brings in-depth roleplay, background and gameplay to the table. Based on his 'canonical' Dragonborn character Faedric, the Heart of Pellitine is a powerful warrior, using an interesting combination of archery, two handed, sneak and heavy armor in combat. But the backing Vix has presented here is what really makes the build - lore based (both real world and Elder Scrolls) reasons for every character choice, great backstory and motivations among other things. The Heart of Pellitine has stood the test of time since it was posted back in early January, I highly recommend giving it a read if you haven't already!

As you would expect from Vix, this build is not something thrown together 'on the back of a fag packet' (as we say in these parts). Instead, we have a full rationale for the concept, detailed perk spread and full notes about playstyle and roleplaying. Here's a taster, as Vix tells us his premise for the character of Faedric:

It took me a little bit of musing on what sort of character would make an interesting Dragonborn. Khajiit was an easy choice as it's certainly my favorite race, but the secondary component were far more nebulous both in style and in the reason he would be in Skyrim at all. I decided that I would make a bounty hunter, mixing melee combat with a ranged attack. Now, as for style some of you are probably aware that I play Dead-is-dead, avoid map based fast travel, and use cooking quite extensively. What might be less obvious is despite unashamedly using potions I chose not to use Alchemy for this character. It was a role play choice rather than a design choice: what good cook would want to be making poisons? (he's probably insulted by that as is).

Naturally this woodsmen type theme lends itself to a character with a high amount of stamina and health. The former became more important due to the often quick nature of combats regarding his choice of style and was also a way to allow me to think about actions and analyze them before committing. This, along with keeping the difficulty on expert, allowed me a continued challenge in working with Faedric.
