The Weekend Roundtable : Thinking about The Elder Scrolls VI

  • We've had plenty of discussions before - and even a poll - about the likely or desired setting forĀ Elder Scrolls VI.

But I was thinking the other day that the ground has shifted considerably with the announcement and reveals aboutĀ The Elder Scrolls Online, and I wanted to hear your views.

Up until the news aboutĀ The Elder Scrolls Online I think most of us were working under the assumption that they'd simply pick another suitable province for the next iteration. After all that's what has happened so far - OK, I know thatĀ The Elder Scrolls: ArenaĀ was the exception, but its been the case ever sinceĀ Daggerfall.Ā

And so we had a lot of fun speculating about whether they might go to somewhere like The Summerset Isles or Valenwood - or even try something really different with Elsweyr or Black Marsh. But that was before we learned that the whole continent of Tamriel will be rendered inĀ The Elder Scrolls Online.Ā Bluntly, by the time they start seriously thinking aboutĀ The Elder Scrolls VI we will have had chance to visit every province on the mainland of Tamriel!

Does this change things? I think it might. All of a sudden, the sheer excitement of pitching up in an entirely unvisited and unexplored province will have gone. For example, if they decided to set the next game in Valenwood (the winner of our last poll on this topic) it would hardly seem all that fresh, since we'll have had ample chance to explore itĀ The Elder Scrolls Online

So what will Bethesda do to make usĀ Elder ScrollsĀ fans salivate overĀ Elder Scrolls VI?Ā That's what I want to talk about this weekend - and we've got a poll running too. In the poll I have listed what I think are the most viable and obvious options for the direction that they might take.

OK then. Vote in the poll and share your views on this thread

For location i think it should be in Valenwood, The Summerset Isles, and Elsweyr. It would be about the size of Cyrodil. Maybe 3/4 the size of it, but it would add diversity to the game because Elsweyr would just be Khajiits and i personally don't want to...  more

I wish one of the 41 people who voted to say that there won't be an Elder Scrolls VI would come and explain their reasons.
To me, it beggars belief that a franchise like The Elder Scrolls, which is essentially a license to print money for Bethesda, ...  more

I think a new province will still hold intrigue and since there will be such a time gap it could be completely different then in ESO.

Vix, did you know that you will be able to customize who you play with in ESO? If you only want to play with people that are around your age, are online most of the time and only roleplay, you could. If you wanted to play with someone who has the most opp...  more

I agree with Kyrielle that ESO should be forgotten. maybe ESO should be in the Meredithic era and so you could see the original knight of nine guy, ysgrammor and the dwemmer and maybe even pre cursed orcs.

I am sure ESO will be ignored. ES: VI will hopefully be on the next generation consoles, making an opportunity for bigger and better. This might mean multiple provinces? I only hope that the next chosen province is very different. Elsweyr would be a great...  more

I agree with most that ESO won't hurt the series as far as future games are concerned. I'd love to see another undiscovered land but at the same time I wouldn't be disappointed if the series continued as it has been. Either way I'd be in line to get a cop...  more

The ESO guys do things a lot differently from the main team by definition, since it's an mmo. I don't think it will ruin the excitement factor for me, the main team uses an entirerly different art style and the game will likely be set even further away fr...  more

Yeah, I don't think ESO will affect the outcome of next Scrolls game. I would have to agree with Mason about the online experience and how Bethesda will have no part in that. Not to get off topic but my first initial thought about ESO was really excited, ...  more
