The Friday Round Up

  • Last Weeks Poll

A whopping 1429 people cast votes in last weeks mega-poll about Daedric Artifacts. Here are the results of your voting:

As you can see, the convenience of having an inexhaustible soul gem pushed Azura's Star into first place. Of course that also included many people who took the option of going down the Black Star route as well.

The Wabbajack grabbed 2nd place - not sure that was because of its novelty value and all-round 'coolness', or whether people genuinely find it useful. I was surprised to see that an artifact I've never even collected shot into joint 3rd - namely, the Oghma Infinium. I see from the Wiki that there is an exploit attached to that device, which might well explain its popularity!

Anyway, you can study the rest of the results for yourself. Was the poll result what you would have expected, or did some artifacts fare surprisingly badly (or well) from your point of view?

    The Deathmatch

This weeks' Deathmatch result is now posted in the Deathmatch 'box' in the left menu, and you will see that the narrow victory went to the Storm Wielder. However, although the Holy Imperial Crusader was edged out, it survives as a result of gaining the requisite 10 'likes'. The other builds will, I am afraid, bite the dust this week....

It's come to my notice that there was a problem this week with the 'vote' button on the poll which appeared to be exactly the same colour as the poll itself - and that likely explains the lower number of votes this week! I can only apologise for this, learn from it, and make sure that next week we have a proper contrast between the button and the background.

Disqus Comments not installed on site

If you paid attention to my previous comments, you might remember I had hoped to install Disqus Comments onto the site. Long standing members will remember that system on the old site - it enable proper threaded discussions on topics as well as being able to 'like' comments.

Unfortunately, the solution suggested on the Ning Creators Forum does not actually work on the site - or, at least, I can't make it actually work on our site. I'm going to try and contact the guy to see if we can figure out what - if anything - I'm doing wrong, because it appears that some Ning sites do have Disqus comments!! So more news on that as and when I make progress with that feature.

    New Site Layout

We've had the new site design for a week now, and I'm pleased that it seems to have gone down very well. Most people like the cleaner and more streamlined look, especially the clearly visible navigation tabs at the top.

One or two people have suggested 'tweaks' that are actually good ideas but unfortunately cannot be implemented. Remember that Ning is a 'platform' not an open system. I'm working with templates, not raw code! And some things that could be done to the front of the site - like making columns wider - would then screw up everyone's custom profile pages.

Anyway, thanks for the generally positive feedback about things - it is appreciated

Lol whoops. I just realized I misread the top "content." It's members and that's why it takes me to their profile. Nvm. :)

Paul, I have enjoyed the new look. However, there seems to be something wrong and it could totally be on my end because I pretty much only visit this site on my iPad so I Don't know if that has something to do with it. The "titles" or "headings" on pages ...  more

I thought that the mace of Molag Bal would get more votes, It's by far the best deadric artifact weapon when it comes to stats and enchantment and it looks truly intimidating. I love to use it on my warrior characters.
