The Character Build Showcase: The Red Mage

  • OK, time for another Character Build Showcase. Mason has made the selection this week, and here is what he has to say about The Red Mage by Zandt

Now here is a build that I have happily dredged up from the bowels of the CB group! This is the ultimate example of a diamond in the rough and the reason I love these weekly features!

This build needs alot of polishing in my opinion but the concept is absolutely brilliant...

The perfect jack of all trades and master of none!

The main feature of the build is that spells are only allowed to be taken to adept level in the magic schools. Light armor, block and one handed add some extra combat potential (you're allowed to perk none magic skills to skill level 50). The nutter even managed to squeeze archery in somehow...

At first this may seem very unfocused but let's look for a second at some of the adept level spells across all the schools of magic...

    • Frost Atronach
    • Revenant
    • Bound Bow
    • Frost/Fire/Shock Cloak
    • Fireball/Ice Storm/Chain Lightning
    • Calm/Fear/Frenzy
    • Ironflesh
    • Detect Life
    • Close Wounds

That really is a powerful spellbook, a character like this would have the answer to any encounter in the game!

Zandt, the author of the build, wasn't quite generous enough to offer his personal perk spread so while writing this I visited the perk calculator myself and its more than possible to put together his concept, I ended up with a total of 11 skills. Bonkers!

Personally I could have alot of fun with a build like this and I hope everyone checks it out!

Sorry, what I ment to say was: It would be a lot more convenient if it was at the top, which it now is. Thanks :)

It's had (currently) 62 views. But, hey, I'm always willing to try something. So I'll give it a spin at the top....

Paul, these blog posts need to go at the top of the page, otherwise we won't see them :/
