The Friday Round Up

  • Here we go with another Friday Round Up of what's new and happening on The Skyrim Blog

Elder Scrolls Online Poll Result & Analysis

Last weeks poll on The Elder Scrolls Online sparked a lot of debate! The results are in, and this is how the poll ended up. Now, there are quite a few comments that can be made about this poll. Firstly, despite the fact that the poll ran for 9 days, we only got just over 900 votes - much lower than normal (take a look at this weeks poll, it has already had more than 1000 votes and still has the whole weekend to run yet!). So the low poll probably tells us something about the appetite of site visitors for the game.

When we turn to the poll itself we see that around a fifth of people just don't want Elder Scrolls Online to be on what is, after all, a Skyrim site. Now, one thing to bear in mind here is that other polls have shown us that about 70% of the members play on console. Given that only 30% of our members could potentially play ESO, one might have expected that more people would have not wanted the game here.

In fact, the large numbers who either wanted to find out more about the game, or at least didn't mind it being here MUST statistically include a large number of people who play on XBox or PS3 and therefore won't even get to play ESO.

Bear in mind that we don't yet know when in 2013 we will get ESO. The lack of clarity, together with the fact they are only in Alpha (at best) suggests later in the year, in the Autumn. By that stage, Skyrim will have been out for almost two years - and its inevitable that Skyrim activity will have slowed. To keep this site fresh and active we will definitely need to broaden beyond Skyrim at some point, and - in absence of hard information about Elder Scrolls VI or Fallout 4 - The Elder Scrolls Online is the natural direction for us to broaden into.

So, taking all this into consideration, the policy of the site will be to continue to report important news about The Elder Scrolls Online as it becomes available, and to develop site content when the game actually releases. However, please be assured that this IN NO WAY will detract from the Skyrim content on our site. That will all continue for just as long as it is relevant and wanted.

To be clear, The Elder Scrolls Online will supplement NOT replace Skyrim content...

Rogue wins the Deathmatch - but Chef survives to cook another day....

This weeks Deathmatch got off to an unfortunate start with a contestant that shouldn't have been in The Bloodworks. Once that got sorted, the new match ended in a victory for 'The Rogue'.

However, the highly innovative 'The Chef' grabbed the requisite number of 'likes' to survive. In fact the Chef has more 'likes' than the Rogue, so I'm not sure why it didn't win the poll...

The full result is now in the The Weekly Deathmatch box.

Site Revamp to Celebrate Skyrim 1st Anniversary

As mentioned previously, the site is going to be given a makeover imminently - in fact this will happen over the weekend and timed to co-incide with the first anniversary of Skyrim.

It's not that there's anything especially wrong with the current layout, it just feels like time for a change. Not sure exactly when it will happen (as i'm decorating my daughter's bedroom this weekend as well!) but expect to see a new banner, new colour scheme, and a re-arranged front page appear at some point over the next couple of days.

I will say this again, I think this site should have it's own podcast. It doesn't have to be about Skyrim all the time, it could include a segment that highlights the Skyim Blog's community, but it would be more fun if it was more general.

Yeah, I don't play PC, but my PC could most likely run it.

You say 30% of our members could potentially play ESO. I disagree, 30% of members don't play on PC, but I'm sure there are many console players with a capable PC, especially that the ESO is built for any modern computer.

That sounds good! I was afraid that things would get "buggy" and such.

The revamp will essentially be cosmetic - tweaking the colours, background etc. It won't make any difference to the actual working of the site!

I just hope that the revamp doesn't screw things up. But i trust you, Paul.

"Chef survives to cook another day..." hehehe, nice! ;)
