Poll Result #4: Followers

  • As we continue recapping poll results this week, we turn to the topic of 'followers'. Of course not everyone is in favour of carting around what sometimes can be a very annoying 'follower' - and indeed that option came top in the poll as we see in these results:

So, just over a quarter of you don't use followers, which still - of course - means that almost three quarters of you do. From the choices offered we see the Lydia ran out as the eventual winner. I wonder how much is to do with the fact that she tends to be the first serious follower that you get as part of the Main Quest (Yes I know you can pick up Sven or Faendal in Riverwood....)

From the others, J'Zargo, the cool Khajiit from the College, had plenty of support, and the crazy Dark Brotherhood dude, Cicero, garnered plenty of support.

Bethesda could have done a better job with followers (many would argue that the ones in Fallout New Vegas had more compelling stories to them, for example). but the large poll turnout (over 1300 votes) show that plenty of people still enjoy their role in Skyrim.

    Any thoughts on this poll?

Yeah, dead thrall is a master conjuration spell, but training conjuration is extremely easy and fast, and it has some very usefull spells even if you don't plan on being a summoner.

Dieter don't you have to be some sort of necromancer to pull that trick off? I don't use spells with current character (xbox player as well if it's a PC trick)

For weight limitation problems you can use the dead thrall pack mule. If you take that approach the only thing you have to worry about is him suddenly dissapearing so saving now and then is recommended.

I almost always use followers (I'm hopeless with the weight restriction I need a pack mule). At one point I had Meeko, Barbas and Ahtar all following.
I find Lydia is almost never around when I'm out in the wilderness. I don't know if it's the daedr...  more

Followers that cast mostly destruction and conjuration spells can get around the meatwall barrier while still being relevant.

Followers can be rather inconvenient for nearly all character types, it seems. A heavy Destruction user might accidentally blast their meatshield to Oblivion. An archer could theoretically do the same, though if you're skilled with your shots there's less...  more

@ Gustaf oops deleted my previous post by mistake - basically my post was...:
When Lydia is asked to 'trade' items she says "How may I serve you my Thane?" (sometimes) in place of "I'm sworn to carry your burdens."
Also (if I may add) I meant ...  more

I think she was saying that from the beginning when Skyrim just released for me. I haven't know it otherwise.

@ Gustaf, maybe it changed with a patch, instead of the DLC - I'm really not sure.  I'm just glad they added a little variety to her lines.
