Dungeons in Skyrim

  • What do you guys expect we will see from the dungeons in Skyrim? Do you think there will be basic types like in Oblivion (i.e. the mines, caves, forts, and ayleid ruins), or do you think the dungeons will be a lot more unique? I know I'm exicited about the Dwemer ruins!

They KIND of tried to do that in Oblivion also, with the light sources shining into the dungeons from outside.  But full on views of the outside is so much cooler 8)

@ Davidkiin - Definitely! Obviously they can't have it so we can just open and close dungeons doors with no loading screens, but this should help blur the line between being outside in the main world and being inside a dungeon or cave. Really looking forw...  more

@ Chris Smith I never realized that before, and looking back on it, it seems pretty cool. It opens up lots of new possiblities for dungeons and will probably help the game feel more fleshed-out and connected.

In one of the demo videos, where the player ascends the snowy stairs of a temple and is then attacked by the dragon resting on top, he enters the building / structure, but once inside he can still see the sky and the dragon flying above. I really hope thi...  more

@ Artemis... my mistake, in an earlier post on the 'old' site, I said '(nearly) every dungeon', but omitted it here - couldn't find the original...  more

RuneRed stated earlier above that he doesn't expect to see Ayleid ruins and with that I agree, however it has been said that there will be some form of Dwemer inspired dungeons in Skyrim.  Some of the art thats been released even shows Dwemer Sentinels si...  more

It's probably already been said but we'll be seeing much more variation in the dungeons than we did in Oblivion. Oblivion's dungeons were all designed by one person whereas Skyrim's have been developed by a team. If that means each dungeon was designed by...  more

@ RuneRed he did not say every dungeon would have a unique item but he did say "pretty much every dungeon."  I just don't want people to be searching every dungeon for that special item that isn't even there. Also in one interview I believe that someone s...  more

Since the dungeons are all hand crafted they may even employ dungeon specific traps. It would definitely keep you on your toes. Just a speculation.

Pete Hines has said that we will see a higher concentration of dungeons in Skyrim.  He also said that each dungeon would have a unique item.  We know some of the dungeons will involve puzzles.  And quests will take us to regions we haven't explored.  Some...  more
