    Chapter 1: The Black Dragon

Theryn opened his eyes and saw the trees passing by through the cracks in the cart. He slowly sat up and looked around. He was in a cart with three other man. A Redguard was sitting to his right and there were two Nords sitting on the opposite side of the cart. By the armor he was in, Theryn guessed that the Nords were the Stormcloaks. The other Nord was dressed in black noble clothes and had a gag on his mouth. The cart was surrounded by Legion horseman and there was another cart in front of theirs.

"I could have stolen that horse and be half way to Hammerfell if it wasn't for you Stormcloaks." the Redguard next to him spoke. He turned to Theryn. "You there. We shouldn't be here. It's these Stormcloaks the Legion wants." The Nord in the blue armor defended himself. "We are all brothers in binds now, thief." Theryn smiled. "Tell me about it."

As the convoy continued, they came upon a town. As they entered the town, Theryn saw an Imperial general and next to him was the Dominions ambassador to Skyrim, Elenwen. The Nord spoke. "Look at him. General Tullius, the Military Governor. And the Thalmor are with him. Damn elves, I bet they had something to do with this." The cart went around the tower. Theryn saw a child looking at the convoy. A man came behind him. "Get back inside." The child complained. "But father, I want to watch the soldiers." The man pointed at the doors. "Inside, now."

The cart stopped. "Why are stopping?" asked the Redguard. The Nord answered. "Why do you think. End of the line." They stood up and got off the cart. They stopped in line in front of a Legion captain and a soldiers that was writing down prisoner names. "Ulfric Stormcloak, Jarl of Windhelm." the man in black noble clothes stepped forward and turned left. "Ralof of Riverwood." the Nord in blue armor followed Ulfric. "Lokir of Rorikstead."

The Redguard stepped forward. "No! You can't do this. We're not rebels." he then started to run away. "Archers!" yelled the Imperial captain. Two arrows hit the Redguard in the back. He fell on the ground, trying to claw his way to the gates. Blood came flowing from his mouth and mixed with his tears. A few moments later he stopped moving. Everyone was silent for a moment.

"Next!" the captain yelled. Theryn stepped forward. "Who are you?" asked the Imperial soldier. "I am Theryn Elinos." The soldier wrote down his name. "Don't worry. We'll make sure that your remains are returned to Summerset." Theryn smiled. "Alinor." The soldier looked at him. "Excuse me?" Theryn to the block. "Nothing."

The prisoners were put in line before the executioners block. The priest started her prayer but was interupted by onr of the Nords. "For the love of Talos, will you shut up. I ain't got all morning." The priest stopped. "As you wish." The Nord laid on the block. "Will you get this over with." He said to the headsman.

The axe went down and the Nords head fell into the basket. The captain pushed the body to the side. Theryn muttered to himself. "No respect." The body was taken away. "Next. The Nord in the rags." Theryn looked to his left and saw a girl step forward. "What in the name of Auri - El are you doing? You can't kill a child!" he yelled at the captain. The captain yelled. "Guards! Shut him up!"

As the guards hit Theryn and threw him on the ground, a loud roar came from the mountains. "What was that?" The Imperial soldier asked. "It was nothing. Next." The captain grabbed the girl and threw her to the ground. The girl was crying and tried to get up but the captain grabbed her blonde hair and put her head on the block. She put her boot on the girl so she couldn't get away.

As the headsman raised his axe, another roar was heard and a giant flying beast came from over the mountain and landed on the tower. "By the eight! What is that thing." one of the guards said as they drew their swords. "Dragon!" yelled the captain as everyone ran for cover. The dragon let out a roar that knocked down the headsman and giant flaming balls came down from the sky, destroying the entire town.

The Nord girl stood up but was knocked down again by a flamming ball that fell near her. Theryn ran to her. "Hey, are you alright?" he asked. The girl stood up again. "I'm fine!" Theryn grabbed her hands and took her bindings off. "Follow me! We have to get to the tower!" They ran towards the tower in which the other Nords took cover. They jumped inside and the Nord, Ralof, closed the door.

"Jarl Ulfric, could it really be? Have the dragons returned?" Ulfric sat down to rest for a moment. "I think that the answer is outside." Ulfric turned at Theryn. "How is the girl?" Theryn looked at the Nord girl. She was sitting in the corner and shaking. "She's in shock, but has no injuries." Ulfric nodded. "Thank you for helping her. I didn't think an elf could do such a thing." Theryn frowned. "I'll take that as a compliment." Ulfric looked at the stairs leading to the second floor. "This isn't over yet, we need to find a way out."

Ralof nodded. "Me and the elf will go up. You stay here until we give you the signal." Ralof and Theryn went up the stairs. When they got to the second floor, the dragon bursted through the wall. "Get down!" Theryn yelled as the room was filled with fire. They jumped behind a piece of the wall. The dragon stopped spiting fire and flew off. Theryn and Ralof went to the hole and looked outside. The town was in ruins. The dragon was flying overhead, grabbing the Imperial archers and throwing them from the sky. The remaining Imperials were making a last stand near the gates of the town.

Ralof looked down and saw that the roof of the inn was collapsed. "We're gonna have to jump." Theryn looked down. "We can make it but the girl and the wounded can't." Ralof nodded. "I can make it." They turned around and saw the Nord girl. Theryn smiled. "No you can't." The girl looked down. "I can do it." Ralof laughed. "You are one stuborn kid."

They looked up and saw the dragon coming at them again. "We have to go. Jump!" Theryn jumped and landed on the hay on the floor of the inn. The girl jumped next. She landed in the hay but let out a scream. "What's wrong?" asked Theryn. "I think I hurt my ankle." Theryn muttered something and lifted her up. "Ralof, come on!" Just as Ralof was about to jump, the dragon hit the tower, knocking Ralof back.

"Ralof! Ralof!" yelled Theryn. "Damn!" Theryn carried the girl outside and they saw the Imperial soldiers shooting arrows at the dragon. "Let's get to the soldiers." said the girl. "No." said Theryn. "Those soldiers are the main target of that dragon." They went behind a destroyed house where they saw the body of an Imperial. Theryn put the girl down and took the Imperial's sword, bow and arrows. He picked the girl back up and ran towards the keep.

They opened the door of the keep and got inside. Theryn closed the door and went to the main room. "We have to rest for a moment. Let me see your leg." The girl lifted her leg on the table. "The good news is that you didn't brake the ankle, and the bad news is that you won't be able to walk for a few hours."

As they sat down, they heard the door behind them open. Theryn turned around and saw the Imperial captain. "You!" He took out his sword and attacked the captain. "You are a fool if you think that you will escape, elf!" Theryn striked with his sword but the blow was deflected. He attacked again but this time the blow came through and slashed the captain. The captain fell to the ground. Theryn turned to the girl. "We have to go."

They ran down the stairs and came upon the torture room. "Mara protect me." said the girl as she laid her eyes upon the body in the cage. "What are you doing here?" said the torturer. Theryn pushed him to the side. "Get out of my way."

They went down the corridor and entered a cave through a ruined part of the wall. They continued through the cave and after a few minutes, they made it outside. "We made it." said Theryn as he put the girl down. They saw the dragon fly away as the smoke that was coming from the ruined town blackened the sky. "Where are we going now?" asked the girl. Theryn answered. "North to Riverwood. We can get some sleep there." The girl smiled. "What's your name?" Theryn checked her leg again. "Theryn Elinos. You?" The girl jumped a little from the pain in her leg. "I'm Valina Flame - Giver. But everyone calls me Val."

"Nice to meet you Val." said Theryn as he picked her up. "Come on. We should be at Riverwood before night falls."

Indeed we do. Writing about Theryn and Val has given me an adventure in my usually boring life routine. Get up, go to work, go back home, go to sleep.
Now, instead of go back home, I have go visit Tamriel.

Finally, able to get started on this after finishing up my build. Nice start. Good twist that the girl was about to get executed. I'm curious to see how Theryn and Val's relationship develop.
