Crossover: Chapter 21 - Termination

  • Collins charged a drain life spell in his hand; the boy would die slowly and…

A howl echoed through the city,

Collins turned around to see what had made it, he assumed it was the werewolf he’d shot down earlier – it would be no difficult feat to finish the jo

He never finished his sentence as 450 pounds of werewolf Bjorn jumped on him, claws flailing around cutting Collins’ pale grey skin as many times as possible. Lucy took the opportunity and grabbed Kyle’s hand and they both ran out of the building towards the Church, where Marcy and Jun hopefully still were.

Bjorn and Collins were still fighting as he had recovered and gotten back onto his feet. The two circled around the room, Bjorn leapt at him but Collins flew out the way and charged a spell.

The spell hit Bjorn and he felt the urge to change back after the sudden loss of energy, he knew he would collapse unconscious but attempted one last strike. Bjorn bounded up to the vampire lord and precisely swung his claws before falling to the ground, asleep.

Two, grey, vampiric wings fell to the ground.

Collins screamed in fury and agony, preparing to kill Bjorn on the spot when suddenly a few laser blasts burnt the wall around him. Nigel had noticed Collins and seen the fight as Lucy escaped with Kyle. The lure worked as Collins abandoned Bjorn and went after Nigel, who in turn ran to lure him further.

Bjorn woke up quickly and ran, in human form, over to the Church where Lucy was. He noticed Nigel and yelled, hoping to further distract Collins. The Lord Commander might be a deadly Gunner and a strategic genius but when it came to trying to kill someone he was pretty changeable.

San-Kai, who had been defending the camp with Hollis, saw the vampire approaching. It was to their advantage that he had no wings; if he could fly then he would have caught up with them in no time. San quickly responded to the situation and charged a spell he had not cast in a long time, he yelled at Hollis to get out of the way and prepped Fire Storm – the master level destruction spell for fire.

His body was consumed in the flames as the spell grew in power but it did not hurt him in the slightest, then he released the spell.

Fire shot out like an explosion a Nigel skilfully rolled out of the way, allowing Lord Commander Mark Collins to be burnt in full force by master level fire. His unearthly screams could be heard throughout the town as his vampiric form burnt horrifically.

Suddenly, another platoon of Gunners arrived – forty of them all armed to the teeth. The sounds of gunfire could be heard as the Gunners quickly decimated those left inside their homes. Nigel knew when to retreat and grabbed San-Kai and Bjorn and ran at an inhuman speed – pulling the pair along with him.

Within seconds they had reached Lucy, Marcy, Jun and Kyle. Preston’s group weren't too far off and they caught up with them quickly.

As the twenty-four of them walked along the path, San-Kai looked mournfully back, “By Julianos, forty lives taken by those mercenaries…”

Lucy looked around her, “Hang on, where’s Ezra?!”

“I could only pull two along with me– I had to leave him” Nigel replied without remorse

“So you just left him?!” Lucy couldn't believe it

Nigel turned around and faced them, suddenly angry, “And what would you have me do? Leave one of you behind?”

    “No, but…” Lucy replied

Nigel interrupted, “I could have tried? If I tried to get San, Bjorn and Ezra out we would have all died, the city was in flames and Gunners were everywhere - be glad that most of us still here”

Bjorn looked back at the now burning city, “Well, let's hope Collins is burning in Hell”

    ******************

The sniper lay prone on the ground and took his sniper rifle off his back, peering down his scope. The group were a long way off but he had several years’ experience and could still get a shot in, he selected his target and fired.

    ******************

Nigel felt the bullet rush past him as it found its target.

    “Kyle! NO!"

Lucy ran over to Kyle’s body, looking expectantly at San-Kai to heal him. He shook his head in response, the child was dead. Marcy collapsed to the floor, crying and Jun attempted to comfort her through cries of his own.

Nigel looked off into the distance, blinking three times to try and target the sniper. His view settled on a man on the outskirts of Quincy, sniper rifle in hand with glowing eyes and a face that was burnt to an unrecognisable monstrosity.

Lord Commander Mark Collins was still alive.

Suddenly Nigel felt a sharp white noise in his ear; his old implanted earpiece hadn't received a signal in a long time.

    “Hello Nigel”

“How the hell did you get my earpiece code?”

    “I have my ways – how’s Kyle?”

    “You’re a heartless monster”

“Then we have something in common”

And with that the connection ended and Nigel saw the burnt figure get up and walk away, sniper rifle slung over his shoulder.

Nigel turned away and looked back to the scene that had just occurred, Marcy and Jun were still crying and Lucy had begun to as well. Preston and the others had stood, waiting, out of respect while a few of them dug a grave with the Pastor’s help.

Preston addressed the crowd, “I realise this is a hard time, but we need to move or else the Gunners will catch up with us”

The city’s Pastor, Jack, interrupted him, “Preston, let us give Kyle a proper funeral first”

Preston groaned internally, it was risky, “Fine”

    ******************

Pastor Jack said the Funeral rites as Kyle was lowered into the grave, Jack was a solemn man with black greying hair and a deep voice – he was always dressed in his Pastor’s Vestments.  “We, therefore, commit his body to the ground; earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection to eternal life”

San-Kai stepped in and offered his own prayer, “As the only representative of Arkay I shall say his prayer: The god Arkay was once like us, bound to winding mortality. But he willingly gave up this existence that we might better understand the vagaries of life and death. It is through the ebb and flow of this cosmic tide that we find renewal and, in the end, peace. May the spirit of Kyle and all those who have left this world and its suffering know the beloved serenity of Aetherius...and may we one day rejoin them in eternity.”

And so the group of twenty-four sat around a fire, tomorrow they would head to Jamaica Plain and hope to settle there. Marcy and Jun sat further away from the fire, speaking to no one and eating nothing.

“Are they alright?” Lucy asked Pastor Jack, who was sat watching them from afar

“They have lost their only son, Lucy; I doubt they will ever be alright again”

Hell in the Hunting Grounds yes... Nothing like a
werewolf scrap against Vampires; guns to boot.

One thing though; would you mind if we discuss
    werewolf sizes for a moment?
