Chapter 1: The First Test
Entry 2.

The journey east took me several days and one night I awoke from a dream drenched in sweat with my heart threatening to jump from my breast. In the dream, I had just defeated a pack of wolves and as I lowered my axe another of the beasts jumped me from behind nocking me to the ground at which point it tore out my throat. Unlike most of my other dreams this one had felt almost real, and I decided to be wary should I come across the location from it.

The following day my caution was rewarded, as I came across the location I had seen in my dream. However, unlike the dream I was only confronted by two wolves instead of the half a dozen that I had foreseen.

The remainder of the journey was uneventful and eventually I found myself at the summit of a mountain covered in snow. Before me stood an ancient Nordic ruin and a fellow elf clad in similar armour to the Nord I had escaped with from Helgen. He requested my help in retrieving some powerful artefact from within the ruins, and as whatever was calling to me was within I had no reason to deny him.

As I stepped into the first room of the ruins, a ghostly figured appeared before me and charged me with a drawn sword. At first, I didn’t believe my axe would harm the figure, but as it sunk into him as though he was flesh and blood my fears quickly disappeared.

After what seemed like dozens of minutes, the figure crumpled and faded away leaving behind a set of ancient armour. As I went to move on further into the ruins, I realised that it was the ghost’s armour that had been calling to. Picking up the armour, I swapped it for the now badly damaged set I had scavenged from the Stormcloaks in Helgen. It fit me perfectly, almost as though it was made to be worn by me.

Had this been my first test?

As the realisation struck me, all my energy seemed to drain from me and I collapsed onto one of the few benches in the room that hadn’t fallen to ruin alongside its surroundings.
