Some would argue that TES got their due with ESO and ESO: Morrowind. Also, Beth may not want to make a new game because they still milk the old cow and still get money from it and they may want to try different things and such before making a new TES game.

I do agree TES is due for another game, but Beth may be trying to branch out to other people and such, which is similar to what I have I said before. I get the whole the "this is unfair and where is our new game" mentality, but I mean why not let others have their games, so when the big one comes everyone will be happy.

Also, FIFA, Madden, and any other sports games are going to do well because the are Bro Games and they are drones because every one of those games does the same thing over and over every year. And if you like FIFA or any game like that, I mean no offense.

Again, what I say is in the spirit of good debate.

Did you see how many times Wolfenstein was released? It's hard to say that Bethesda is trying to "branch out other people" with a new Wolfenstein release this soon after their previous one. If anything, one could argue that Beth is milking the Nazi genre to death.

If Beth had been smart they could have made this entire situation a positive experience for everyone. I believe the paid mod concept could have been a great, but they approached it as just a cheap money grab.

Imagine this scenario instead of the one that played out:

Let's take Beyond Skyrim: Bruma as an example because it's essencially a DLC-sized expansion, rather than an overhaul (like Enderal) or a remake (like Skywind/Skyblivion). What if Bethesda had reached out to the team and said: "Hey, we love what you're doing and we want to work with you." Now they either hire the team on as a mini-studio, or they assign a few of their guys/girls to work with them, curating the content, assisting with quality assurance, etc. Once it's done Bethesda releases it as an officially supported DLC. And yes, they sell it, but at a lower price than if Beth had developed the entire thing. Maybe $10-$15, as long as it's on the same scale and calibur of say the Dragonborn DLC.

If the team took them up on the offer then they get paid a percentage of the sales. Being performance-based would encourage this and other teams to create the best content they can. If they're not interested, then they can go on working by themselves and release it as a free mod like they were planning.

My thought is that with just a bit of effort on Bethesda's part they could have several small teams working semi-autonomously, with oversight and final approval resting in Bethesda's hands, of course. And potentially have 1 or 2 DLC-sized releases for both Skyrim and Fallout every year. Bethesda would make money, the modders/mini-studios would make money, and fans would get a steady stream of new content that's WORTH PAYING FOR while we wait for the next game from Beth.

Just imagine the difference in response if Todd had come out on stage after all the other games were announced and personally announced the Creation Club with a trailer for an awesome new DLC for Skyrim created in collabration with X modding team. Fans would have gone crazy with delight instead of anger!

This is so spot on, PCoutcast!

EDIT: I would not be as frustrated with Bethesda if they did what you are proposing. They certainly dropped the ball this year. In fact, Pete Hines didn't even look happy to be on stage the entire night. He probably anticipated the coming storm.

Thats a brilliant point PC. The possibilites with that would be insane, and eventhough I don't use mods I'd love the very concept of it if nothing else.

Unfortunately, I think thats an enormous leap for a developer to do, and I'm just not sure if any big studio would be ready to do that yet.

Haha. I know FIFA is well-loved, by Americans and by our brothers across the pond. I meant that sports games sales, generally speaking, does not surpass RPG/Survival-Horror games. That was my only point.

Fair enough dude, for some reason I just felt the obligation to defend it, eventhough I loath it with a passion. Yeah, I don't know why either...

Yes, I saw that and who isn't milking Nazis at this point now.

If nothing else, I think we can all agree that Bethesda needs to run all their development schedules and annoucement plans through the Tamriel Vault first.

Pete's job sucks sometimes. He has to go out there knowing that no matter what games he announces a huge portion of the audience is going to be pissed that none of those games is from Bethesda Game Studios :)

Very true. PR/Marketing isn't for the faint of heart.
