Lore Discussion: Nords, Mercenaries of Skyrim

  • April 7, 2016

Only really insofar as how they can justify things. "Reman? Totally a Nord, we'll follow him. Talos? He was totally a Nord from Atmora!"

Reman and Talos were quite badasses, not milk drinkers)) Not the case I'm talking about)

Daedric Script on Jurgen's tomb, Hermaeus Mora? Or is it Paarthurnax?

Deadric script and Paarthurnax?  Wouldn't it be the dragon script in that case? Hermaeus Mora seems more likely if you look at it from such a side)))

What I'm asking, why is it so bad that the Nords turned from mindless warmongers into more civil people? Would you, for instance, prefer living in a land without law, ruled by whoever is the most badass killer?

Watch your tongue, puny elf. There Orcs here who read this discussion. You don't want to make them angry... xD

Orcs can do whatever they want in their strongholds, I've never heard about them trying to conquer all of Tamriel or create an empire. Correct me if I'm mistaken. And they actually have laws, their Code at the very least.

I'm just shitting you. Let's not stray too far away from the topic. :)

Who's to say that a culture that holds martial prowess in high esteem is a culture without laws? Where is your evidence that they didn't have laws?

But Karves is right, we are straying and my apologies for that.

Maybe there are exceptions, but in this case I suspect it is, at least to some extent. It's just logical. The Nords don't have a god like Malacath to make a Code for them. What does that mean? That the law is what the storgest guy says. Until there's another, even stronger guy who would kill the previous one and replace him. Or the less strong guys would gather and overthrow him, but then there will appear another one sooner or later.

Evidence? Well, what Ulfric did clearly indicates that the things are (or rather used to be) just the way I just said. Also there is Talos, who basically did the same (only he was smarter and knew when to change the approach), and I suspect every other king in Skyrim did the same to some extent.

Actually it's all in the same box. One stems right from the other.

Show me the text where it is directly said that Nords came from a lawless society. I'm sorry, I will require convincing on this matter.

And this is not me being a Nord lover or anything like that. It's me really wanting proof. I'd be just as demanding if it was another race.

Of course there's no text, who would ever admit such a thing? It can only be seen by the actions of people. Well, they probably had some laws... like that whoever killed the king can become a new one, it can be called a law of a sort.
