Are you a Manson fan, or just a casual listener? I am only curious.

I watch a lot of Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, and Noir/Mystery films. A villain to me can be anything whether it be a person, idea, society, or whatever. I do like that you used Fahrenheit 451 as your example because I love that book and have read it numerous times.

You are right any class can be interesting can interesting, that wasn't my argument, my argument is that good aligned characters are boring and plain. Neutral and Evil character tend to be not as boring to me. I defend evil classes like Necromancer and such because it appeals to me because I have always liked villains for they are almost always more fleshed out than the main hero. A good example of this Darth Vadar and Luke Skywalker. Darth Vadar has a better story and you can understand why he acts like he does while on the other hand, Luke is this destined hero and such.

Neither, honestly. I've listened to more of his interviews than I have his music.

:D Me too! Right, so we're on the same page now.

My apologies; I misunderstood. I want to agree, but conditionally. The hero and villain ought to be fleshed out equally, as the villain serves as the antithesis to the hero. I think Star Wars is probably a really good example of that, as you mentioned. You also mentioned Luke, who I'm guessing is a lot like Harry Potter in that he's fairly plain and uninteresting as a character. I suppose that's why anti-heros are pretty popular as well. They usually have more fleshed out back stories and aren't just Mary Sues/Stus.

    Eh, fair enough.

Man, the more you know. :)

I will agree both should be, but most of the time they aren't. Yes, pretty much. If you want a good example of Anti-Heros just simply look at Game of Thrones every house, except for Bolton, are pretty much gray area anti-heroes. Each character is fleshed out and you understand them from Jon Snow to Arya Stark and everyone in between.

Missed this discussion when posted but I 'd like to throw my two cents :P . Whenever I make a new character it will come from something that inspired me to make him like something I read along with some music so I am able to roleplay with them to a certain extent, whatever the type of class it may be. That being said though what is the easiest for me to roleplay and mostly go for are two, Adventurous Arcane - Mage-ish Rogues/Archers/Rangers and Healers - monks/priests also a darker aspect of these using magic like diseases, poisons and such things. The first one is comming from my love for such fantasy characters in books and novels and is my second most played type of class in general and the second is my most played class in my 14 years of gaming.

That's great Amadeus Bolton. Yes will be more about this character, because is the main character of my story and TES FAN project.

Eh, don't worry about missing it, at least you have commented now. :)

I understand where you are coming from on both sides. I have roleplayed as several of my favorites fantasy characters, but sometimes they tend to differ from Mages or any magic based characters, so it quite a fun experience as well.

That's certainly an interesting mix there Duvain, and two great and fun classes to roleplay if you ask me. The first has so many possibilities with why and how they operate, they can have motives miles apart which is why its so interesting - from a greedy thief to a valiant spy. The second is always a laugh, and I reckon that having interesting gameplay creates interesting roleplay, as its a new perspective from all areas.

That's right Zonnonn, the first gives a huge amount of versatility and the second is always fun and can go from a righteous holy type Healer class or monk to a drunkard monk using his fists anytime without a care or to a darker type of monk and even an evil one. Cool stuff if I say so myself :P

The drunk has me giggling, now I'm a really proper monk smashing people over the head with a bottle of whiskey before downing the rest. Brilliant.

I can roleplay basically any type of character but I'm extremely fond of stealthy characters like assassins or nightblades who ultimately work for the greater good (that means the Brotherhood dies), balancing their mystique with wanting to help within reason is a great challenge and great fun. I also imagine they are very world-wise due to their emphasis on observation and information instead of strength or arcane proficiency.

Not to detract from the thread, but is this always the case? Some would say that having a force purely to take out trouble makers is a plus to society, even if the occasional innocent is caught in the crossfire. But then again it would take a very morally fluid person to allow an innocent to die just to let a few bad eggs get offed as well, but its an interesting point regardless.
