In a few of my SMODE attempts I ended up setting up shop in Hangmans Alley for the same reason you've talked about Home Plate. Proximity to venders and central location. The lack of fast travel simply requires it (at least for my patience level).

I will say that reading this makes me want to start another character...another gravestone for our Dead is Dead Thread :)

Also, I found a teddy bear stuffed in a locker in the bottom of Quincy Jail. He's been set free...

Thanks, Motty. I am having quite a bit of fun. It's good testing your mettle and it has really rethought how I played the game. Hangman's Alley and Homeplate are important grabs in my game. Yeah, I wish I could do the DiD, but dang, while I don't die much, I still die. I'm going to wait until I have a fair amount of caps though before I buy Home Plate. I want to feel like I deserve it.

Teddies! I found a weird "souvenir" teddy that looks quite a bit different.

Amornar said: I think that fits just fine regarding the settlement wipe outs. I believe if survival mode is an attempt at bringing realism to the game then the player character is most likely to have a "grey" morality. Lying, cheating, stealing, etc. are all part of that. If people won't get off their land you want for your self and it's resources not much choice left.... Especially if you choice to go Minutemen-less in your playthrough.

Yeah, I think so too, so the Abernathys may die. :D And I just won't pick up the locket at Olivia Station, which I've cleared before in my Teddy Bear free weekend.

I've been slowly catching up from where I last read to, which was around page one :p A lot of the terms and such I still need to filter or cross-referrence due to unfamiliarity - it's been almost a year since I played, or maybe even longer. That said, there is something here I like a lot, and concede this is inspirational :) My own attempts at Survival didn't go too well, and it was infections that ultimately annoyed the shite out of me as trying to RP became a nightmare in a place I found hard enough to RP in, but colour me intrigued and pensive right now. A vague but growing part of me misses the feel of the guns and the forlorn music and atmosphere right now.

Man, this stuff is engrossing! I can't stop reading and now I'm all caught up. Let me tell you, your playstyle is much smarter than mine (might be obvious from my many SMode deaths in the DiD thread), as well as your perk choice. I guess I'm closer to your fiance in playstyle, relying on twitch and more normal shooter skills to win battles. Also, your strategy with your settlements is great. I can't wait to see what happens when you hit the inner city.

Survival is tricky. Sometimes what I do works and sometimes it doesn't. I could've probably tweaked my special a bit since now Attack Dog isn't happening, but at the same time, four is a number where just a bit of gear changes can boost you up nicely and add a bobble head for late game and you're good to go. I do struggle with disease, but some of them, like insomnia, you can just ride out if you sleep more frequently. Only use antibiotics for the real bad diseases, the ones that make you take periodic damage. That one is awful. The rest are manageable.

My playthrough isn't really smarter, I'm just way more cautious. I've died a few times, but those were mostly really early in the game when I didn't yet know enemies or how people would react. Now, most of my reverts to earlier saves are to fix mistakes. Like for example, in my last session, which I'll talk about after this session I'll post in a bit, I followed Lucas Miller's caravan to Greentop and it takes several reloads because my favored gun does damage in a certain way which is sometimes bad when I'm not traveling alone. I also accidently killed a settler when Super Mutants attacked Starlight Drive In a second time. It bothered me and I reloaded, lost a lot from that save too.

I'm curious as to how I'll handle the inner city as well. I certainly have enough caps to buy Home Plate now.

But first, onto session six. :D
