Examining Jurgen Windcaller

Interesting thoughts. Tomorrow I'll have to revisit High Hrothgar to check for dragon motifs. I feel like since the Voice is literally in the tongue of the dragons, their appearance in the tomb wouldn't be too far fetched, but allusions to Kyne might be more expected.

Well spotted, there is indeed a similarity. Are you sure you've see those monoliths elsewhere Ben? It'd be a huge help knowing where.

One location that comes to mind is Soljund's Sinkhole

Totally pincers. Old Herma Mora's idea of a joke

Just an observation that probably has no connection to . . . well, anything. I haven't cleared this tomb in a long time, but I noticed some differences in the monoliths. There are three pairs. The first pair (closest to the camera) are facing each other. The second pair face up and their mouths/beaks are open wider than the other pairs. The third pair face down at the tomb. Like I said, it probably has nothing to do with this discussion, but I tend to think that patterns and placement are vitally important to a culture that is highly symbolic.

I took a quick trip around Google images (quick?!) and found the same monoliths in almost every barrow where we encounter a dragon priest.

Obviously, Ustengrav is unique in that the monoliths rise to greet you. However, here's an image of Rahgot's resting place in Forelhost.

That's some great research right there as it means we can rule out the pincer/H Mora connection, leaving only the Windcaller/Dragon Cult connection.

I've been following this thread and the discussion is fantastic! My thoughts continually return to the one thing that is so out of place though. What the hell is up with the Daedric runes?? Why would Bethesda do something so damn blatant in the main quest?? What does it mean!!?

That's what bugs me, too. I was trying very hard to find a connection to H. Mora, even Phil and I were trying to prove whether the monoliths in Jurgen's chamber were pincers. It's unlikely since these monoliths appear in nearly every barrow where we find a dragon priest. If the monoliths were actually pincers, then that would mean H Mora had a significant influence in the entire dragon cult. As I said, very unlikely.

Daedric script shows up in some strange places. The rune spells have a daedric letter, but the spells are not necessarily daedric in origin.

Daedric letters appear on the Mage's Guild seal on the floors in each guild hall in Oblivion.

Unfortunately, I'm starting to wonder if Bethesda uses Daedric as a go-to alphabet if they want to write something obscure or to make its meaning hidden.

At least the Mages Guild dealt with Daedra with the school of Conjuration. I could see a wizard thinking it clever to write in Daedric or perhaps even to give it some kind of power. In a Nordic barrow is an entirely different ball park, especially since it's only in one and an important one at that!
