HA nice. Yeah I'm currently messing around with a character who has some chameleon armor and it is...shall we say kind of annoying. The PIPBOY in your second pic looks correct. If you're crouched and the armor engages, it takes a sec to sort out before you can look properly at the screen. And even then it's a bit effed. But yes, I do believe that's how it's intended to be. Nice grab on the Alien Blaster. Too bad Bethesda never sorted how to get more rounds :/

Yeah, he was not too difficult to kill. The pipboy is still annoying, but there's not much I can do barring installing a mod.

I think their solution was to make it so you can mod it to use the same ammo as laser weapons. Not exactly the same thing, but if you have science it stops the gun from becoming useless.

I actually gave the gun to my top guy at Hangman's Alley. If you give him one round, he fires forever. Yay! The only problem is that I may lose the blaster if he dies, but it's going to take a lot to kill him. Hangman's Alley is guarded to the teeth. I'll post pictures in a bit. I'm do for an update.

Warning: This may need to be divided into two posts.

    Lots of Images! YAY!

There is too much to detail. I was able to secure Hangman's Alley after walking from Oberland after session 11. Was caught in a skirmish between Children of Atom and Gunners and nearly died, but I didn't. I saw the conflict between Diamond City guards and the Super Mutants. She, of course scrounged the aftermath of the battle. I had to go back several times to Oberland to drop off gear and stuff. I think I chronicled the move of supplies from session 11? I'm not sure. Well, prior to this, I had moved most of my supplies to Oberland from Starlight and Sanctuary Hills.

Why do I want Hangman's Alley? Why is this important for Norine?

    A. You can capture and develop the settlement without being aligned with the Minutemen.

    B. It is in a very central location on the map. The Fens. Cambridge is North and Boston proper to the south. Lots of activity.

    C. It is near Diamond City. Why do I care? I'm not using Local Leader, nor am I using Science, so I cannot staff my settlements with stores. Hangman's Alley puts me very close to a Doctor.

    D. It is a small, boxed in settlement with limited entry points, therefore easily defended.

    E. It has great potential for some interesting building ideas.

It was guarded by a band of raiders, which were not to bad to take out from the roof of the nearby appartment. Once she secured it, she proceeded to make the trips necessary to deliver the supplies to Hangman's Alley from Oberland. This left me with, lol, about 1000 steel and wood and numerous other supplies. I used supplies from Graygarden, Sanctuary Hills, Oberland, Weston Water Treatment, and Home Plate. Yes, I purchased Home Plate from Diamond City and then scrapped it, leaving only the bed.

Unfortunately, SMode won't let me toggle tfc to take an aerial shot of what I did, so grabbed an aerial photo from the internet and labeled it with my structures and some basic information about the settlement. Right now, I have like 8 settler in there.

What I really wanted to capture with Hangman's Alley was the idea of a coloful hidden jewel in the shadow of the more prominent Diamond City. I played a lot with primary and secondary colors, layers, and a merge of aesthetics, all the while keeping functionality and keeping to the concept that I wanted my settlers to be moderately comfortable. I call is "Shanty Chic".  Because I did Hardware Town, I roleplayed that Norine actually stumbled upon a warehouse that had some pretty cool shipments of special furniture and appliances.

Nonscrappable structure: I converted this to what I call a "processing station". I roleplay it that new settlers need to register with Norine, where they get their weapons, armor and are assigned a unit to sleep in and a job. It has a desk, storage for settler gear and shelving.

Boss's Quarters: A point of my settlements and part of Norine's distance from people is that she keeps herself seperate. I built her residence above the unscrappable shack, using scaffolding, warehouse, steel, and rail cars. Her living space is long and narrow and above her settlement where she can keep an eye on things. A rail car bridge is a dominant feature. There are places within this residence that are inaccessible to settlers using scaffolding and stairs. It's in these alcoves that I store the heavy weaponry and legendary items that I do not want settlers to have access too. Sometimes they get buggy and take things. I actually liked it way more than Home Plate, so this will be my primary residence for the rest of the game.

Housing: The 15 other beds are divided into labeled "units". Each unit has three beds for comfort. Units A, B, and D were made using the rouded steel prefab, scaffolding and squashed into a wall. D is where the basketball hoop is, while A and B are on the same side as the workbench.  Building C uses the square steel fabrication and Unit E is a converted bus located on the street adjoining where you find the weapons workbench in the original Hangman's Alley.

The typical layout for units A, B, C, and D. It allows for a measure of comfort, I think.

The exteriors of units A and B. Unit D is similar.

You can see the different shape of Unit C here.

This Unit is also inaccessible to settlers. However, they still register that they have a bed. They just hang out at the lower level of the settlement, so you have activity all day long. A generator is mounted on top and I plan to develop that little space later. Below the unit is Unit B and the scrapper station converted out of an orange box car. Was hard to give the impression that they are actually built almost on top of each other, but I managed. Construction looks very rickety at times, but dang, that's how it's supposed to be. I can picture Norine and settlers "raiding" construction sites for supplies. Whatever they can find, they'll use.

    Unit "E" or... Disco Bus

I had a load of fun with this structure. I had wanted a bus in this settlement for a good long while. Partially because the yellow of it looks amazing with the rail cars, but also because I can see settlers using a ramshackle bus and turning it into a home. It's in the spirit of this "scrapper" build I've put together. Very fun to see settlers chilling out there after a hard day defending the site.

Utilities: This settlement is not just about aesthetics, however. It's a functioning settlement, strong in defense and food production within the limitations of the perks I've taken. The turrets are Heavy Machine gun and I'll probably upgrade the defenses over time, as this will be the settlement where I have all of my Legendary stuff. I'll even include traps if I can manage it. All settlers have combat shotgun or rifle tiered equipment or greater and they are walking around in upgraded metal and leather armor. One even has the Alien blaster and another has a gamma gun.  Three Windmill power generators are dotted throughout, in elevated locations for protection. Yes, I could use bigger generators, but again, the idea of grabbing from a downed plane and then making something out of it is just too badass to pass up. She's like, IMO, as if Negan and Rick Grimes had a baby.  There are five water pumps scattered throughout, but I felt that purifier that I could build guzzled too much electricity. I may upgrade to the lower-tiered purifier later. Other electrical structures include a decontamination arc and a recruitment tower.

Central to Hangman's Alley's production is a small farm, which encompasses nearly the entire buildable area between the entrance of the alley way to the gate wih the orange door. It is guarded by three Machine gune turrets. At first I tried to put the brahmin there, but she didn't want to stay.

The settlers have their spots for gathering as well. I placed the cooking station close to the central workbench and used that as an area where settlers can gather, creating a crowded feel to the activity. I LOVE that the brahmin is there. It reminds me soooo much of the streets of New Dehli and I will be purchasing another brahmin and several dogs to give the settlement that sense of cluster. You know that scene in Bladerunner where Decker is in that city area that is very crowded? Down the road, I want that look. Lights, lots of lights!

A bar that I stocked with liquor. No, I can't set up an actual bar, but man, do I enjoy the vibe of this place.

And this is the concept that my fiance told me he's going to copy directly.

I wanted a Nuka mixer for this settlement and I decided to go a step further and mount the mixer in the elevated alcove above where you find the weapon's bench. Then I took it to a new level by decorating it as if it was a soda shop. And yes, disco lights. They are a feature of this settlement. But it's definitely not all party at Hangman's Alley. We're ready for anybody that comes our way.

I love how narrow this alley looks. I can barely fit through and neither can my settlers. Now picture adding an extra brahmin or two, a pack of dogs and many more signs and lights. It's cramped and crowded and yet, I still have more room to build, so I'll probably continue to build and expand the settlement, downing my alcohol, Daytripper, and donning a pretty dress to get more people down here. My fiance says I can probably increase the settlement to about 20 or so with drugs and gear and he explained to me how it works. So far, this is my favorite settlement of the game and I've been to a lot of them. I even like this one better than the Castle. IMO, it's also one of the most strategic settlements to develop for an SMode playthrough.

Again, as always, thanks for looking, and sorry for the delay in posting. It just took so long to get all these images processed and for me to get the actual settlement up and running. With this settlement where I want it, I'll be heading back to Sanctuary Hills to look into Wicked Shipping and Olvia Station and fortify the first settlement.  By the way, did you know that Preston gave me a Minute men quest without me actually concenting to be general!? Gah! Hate spoonfeeding quests.

I also plan on taking Dogmeat for a spin to see how he does. I got the bug where his carry weight is increased to 150 when he is equipped with glasses and clothing, so I can use him as a pack mule of sorts and I set his home to Hangman's Alley.

Still working on my fiance's stats. He's level 46 now and I have his level 37 stats and how he took his perks. I am level 24 now and will post my level 25 perks in the next session.

I do my best. I don't have positioning mods, so a lot of the time spent on this was just finding combinations that worked with placements and building it to keep the feeling of "Shanty Chic". :D

That is one amazing looking settlement :D

I can't remember if you're on PC or not, but if you are do you get weird fps drops around Diamond City?

The pictures look amazing and you certainly nailed the whole Shanty-chic look, which I adore anyway. Is there a chance you'll export it as a settlement blueprint once you're done with the playthrough? I would love to have a look around for myself

Thanks, Goldie, I had a lot of fun designing it. There is more work to be done, but I'm satisfied to the point where I can start playing the game.

I get fps drops sometimes in the early morning with the sun rays, when it's really foggy and in the morning and where there's a lot of fire, but so far, nothing significant at Diamond City.

Speaking of playing the game you should check out how I handled rescuing Nick. Shameless plug is shameless :P

Well the fact that you have any at all just confirms what I was reading online, it's a problem with the game.

Thanks so much. Haha, Shanty-chic. I will look into exporting it when I'm done with achievements. That's cool that you all want to look through it. I was happy with it, but I'm so limited because I don't have mods that let you place anywhere or build everything.
