New Beginnings - the Future of the ESO Group

Hello, Wanderers and Adventurers of Tamriel!

My name is Patriarch, and I am the new host of the ESO Group. Okay, let’s be honest, the group hasn’t been the most active lately. However, I am confident that we can turn that around! Did you notice I said, we? That’s right. ESO is, obviously, an MMO and, although you can solo about 85% of the content in the game, it’s much more enjoyable playing with a friend than by yourself. Why? Ultimately, the game is designed to create a vibrant community. Isn’t that what the Tamriel Vault is all about – the community? We come to this site not only to learn more about our favorite games, but also to chat with like-minded gamers. Although I am fairly new to the Vault, I can see that strong friendships have been forged over the months and years. In fact, a Vault member recently commented that those friendships would be cherished forever. Why? Because a vibrant community has been forged right here on this site.

Community – that’s the future of the ESO Group. Our goal is to provide the ESO/Tamriel Vault community with a place to share our adventures, to develop friendships with other players, to gather together for in-game activities and content, and to provide up-to-date game information.

But, in order to accomplish this lofty mission, we need your help. We need community input and involvement to make this group successful. Remember, it's about the community - about all of us - not about one person or a small group of hosts/admins. There’s never been a time like now to get involved. Since ESO launched on console, the servers have been packed with players. Whether its PvP (small groups, one-on-one duels, or zerg-fests), group PvE (dungeons, trials, arenas), or solo PvE, ESO is very much alive and active. New content is being added every quarter.

Below, I have listed a few questions that will help us to listen to this amazing community and to collaboratively forge the future of the ESO Group. Please consider posting a comment answering these questions. Also, feel free to discuss anything on your mind about ESO or the ESO group. I know that great ideas are out there, so let’s hear them!

    1. Do you still play ESO?
    2. If you do play ESO, what platform and server do you prefer? What are your characters, what level are they, and to what alliance do they belong?
    3. If you have not played in a while, what would draw you back into the game?
    4. What kind of content would you like to see in the ESO Group? (guides about game mechanics, builds, lore, screenshots, etc.).
    5. Would you participate in Tamriel Vault events in the game?
    6. Would you join a Tamriel Vault guild?
    7. Please share any other ideas you might have (ok, not a question – more like a request)

    See you in Tamriel!

Hey patriarch, good to see you hitting the ground running on this. I think ESO has loads of potential here in the vault, we just need find the right angle of approach. I believe you're on the right track by focusing on community - specifically guilds. A cohesive network of guilds filled with friends from the vault will go along way to pushing this group forward. I play on ps4 and I have a veteran level 1 night blade archer focused on heavy long range dps. I used to play with tae teccam and ely, and some of the most fun I've had in anything tes related was dungeon crawling with my friends. Unfortunately one of the key flaws of ESO at the time was how impossible it was to find a raid group outside of your friends. The queue feature was crap. Assuming that is still the case, finding a way to use this group to work against that would be awesome and definitely get me back into ESO.

Interesting, well I might as well reply.

    1. Yes, I tend to play ESO on a regular basis, at least more than a couple hours per week. There are time periods when I don't log on for weeks but I always seem to come back to my characters because as with Skyrim I put a lot of thought into what I am playing.

    2. I play on EU PC under the username @rebellion_c03. I have no space left to create a new character, yet I always play the same two. My main character is Vezrin, a Veteran Rank 2 Redguard Nightblade Werewolf part of the Daggerfall Covenant with whom I explore the Aldmeri Dominion side at the moment. I configured her as a dual wielding dps (or DD depending on who you're asking) with a bow as the secondary weapon. I admit that I am not too impressed by the AD quests hence Vezrin kind of became my secondary character lately. My new main character is Karethys Maryon, a level 22 Dunmer Sorcerer dps of the Ebonheart Pact on her way to becoming a vampire blood mage. Some people will recognize who she really is. Anyway, the Ebonheart Pact quests are quite fun and compatible with the way I roleplay so far. I intend on leveling her to at least Veteran Rank 1.

    4. , 5. , 6. & 7. Even though I don't visit this site as often as I used to, I'd like to see a single unified Tamriel Vault Guild spanning across all platforms and continents with its HQ established here. I don't know if this is possible from the game's perspective, but if it is, I'd join in on organized events and such. I'm strictly a PvE player and lately it's been bugging me that everyone in ESO is spamming the chat looking for VR16 players to complete dungeons. That's too much elitism for my taste. Over the last two weeks I've been queuing my Sorcerer for dungeons using the group finder with no luck. It's sad. Even though I did most of the dungeons with my Nightblade I want to re-do them with my Sorcerer too. The problem is I don't plan on reaching VR16 on any of my characters because it is too much of a grind.

Thanks for the reply. I understand what you are saying about groups wanting v16s. I ran into that a few times. Maybe I just got lucky and ran with people about my level. The best thing I did was join a guild that was willing to show me the ropes. I hate running with PuGs anyway - most have no clue what they are doing.

I don't think the infrastructure allows for a single unified guild that spans all platforms. However, I think we can overcome that by having a single guild here on the Vault that splits into sub-guilds for the different servers/platforms in-game. My goal would be to have a guild master (most likely me, at this point) who coordinates the main activities of the guild as a whole and guild leaders over the sub-guilds. The "Tamriel Vault Guild" would have in-game events that would be coordinated here but hosted by the sub-guilds' leaders in-game. I don't know - I'm still fleshing things out at this point.

BTW, thanks to the anniversary double xp event, I was able to grind my v5 to v16 in four days (three hours each day).

Thanks, Curse. ZOS has made some improvements to the dungeon group finder. Many on the official forums say that it is a big improvement. I haven't used it yet.

    1. Do you still play ESO?

Yes, well. I want to. Started a while back and then stopped when I was working more on Straag Rod and the builds.

    2. If you do play ESO, what platform and server do you prefer? What are your characters, what level are they, and to what alliance do they belong?

PC is my platform and talking servers to me is like talking the old Altmeris. I live in the US, east coast time zone, if that helps, lol. I have a level 6 fat Khajiit who is a member of the Aldmeri dominion, but I can basically start from scratch again if needed. I would be PvE. I have a user name, but lol, I'll look it up when I get home from work tonight. *makes a goofy grin*

    3. If you have not played in a while, what would draw you back into the game?

Being with a guild or a group that played my way. My huge problem is that I play slow and I tend to dwell in ruins and stuff, looking at things, looting, staring at the architecture. Not sure if that is conducive to MMO playing, though. Loved my play date with Karver the Lorc and Mirric, but they moves fast and my fatty Khajiit took too longs.

    4. What kind of content would you like to see in the ESO Group? (guides about game mechanics, builds, lore, screenshots, etc.).

All of this sounds good to me, though I tend to fixate on lore and screenshots.

    5. Would you participate in Tamriel Vault events in the game?

Yes, if it didn't steal too much time from Straag Rod and other commitments.

    6. Would you join a Tamriel Vault guild?

Haha, the better question would be if a Tamriel Vault Guild would have me. I'm a terrible player, but I could give guided tours. LOL, and watching a fat khajiit belly jiggle is always fun.

    7. Please share any other ideas you might have (ok, not a question – more like a request)

I could see myself doing more work with screenshots and lore, which could mean that I do a lot of exploring on my own, and that's okay.

Thanks for the information! I envision that the main purpose of the guild would be to group like-minded people from the Vault. The more people we recruit, the more likely you are to find someone who plays to your style and speed. But, I understand about wanting to "take in" the architecture and scenery. I sometimes wander around the beauty of the Aldmeri Dominion zones.

As for servers, it's not too difficult. You have the North American and European servers. You can pick either one and have characters on both - it doesn't matter where you live.

Sooo much work! I wish I had more time to play ESO!
