The sword Goldbrand is almost a complete mystery. Thieves tell tales about its golden make and how it was actually forged by ancient dragons of the North. Their tales claim that it was given to a great knight who was sworn to protect the dragons. The Sword lends its wielder the ability to do fire damage on an enemy. Goldbrand has not been sighted in recent history and is said to be awaiting a worthy hero. - Yagrum Bagarn, Tamrielic Lore

So, I might actually be a little bitter about the fact that Goldbrand wasn't introduced at all in Skyrim. I mean, read that middle bit about it being given to a great knight who was sworn to protect the dragons...That just screams awesome boss level enemy in Skyrim and fits so perfectly in with the events of Skyrim that it kind of hurts me a teeny bit that we couldn't find Goldbrand in the hands of some Dragon Priest or powerful Draugr. Anyway, I suppose the reason behind it could be that Goldbrand was always kind of...boring as a weapon, sure fire damage is all well and good but the fact that your doing, a quite frankly easily surpassed 30 damage in it's highest form (Morrowind) is nothing to write home about.

    This mod changes the following

o - Adds the weapon into Skyrim as part of the Main Questline

o - Adds Eltonbrand into Skyrim as part of the F**k the Blades Questline (not killing old Paarthy in other words)

o - Alters the effects of the sword to be more interesting, and to mimick the effects of what we see Dragons doing in Skyrim a little bit.

    Finding Goldbrand

I feel like there's only one location in Skyrim that is epic enough, and difficult enough to get to for Goldbrand to feel like an accomplishment and to explain why nobody found it in-game. That's right, Skuldafn is the location of Dovaam Yol (Dragon Serve Fire) the legendary (ish) leader of the Dragon Cult who unites the old Nordic clans (Draugr) to fight for those who owned the land before the death of Alduin. He's essentially a devout, crazy cult-leader who works on the same scale as a Dragon Priest, but is more focused on melee combat and fights like a Warrior. Dovaam Yol can be found at the bridge of Skuldafn (the first one you cross) and operates as the guardian of the Dragon's first (and last) stronghold.

Goldbrand is roughly equivalent to an Ebony Sword with the same reach, speed and base damage as one. It has the unique enchantmnet, Blaze of the Dov which does the following

    o - 50 points of fire damage over 10 seconds (non-stackable)

o - 5 points of fire damage on hit

    0 - 3% chance to disarm

    Creating Eltonbrand

So, I was never sure exactly how Eltonbrand was made (In terms of in-game stuff) but in Skyrim it's going to be pretty simple. Paarthy up on his small hill will purify Goldbrand as long as you have exactly 11171 gold/septims in your inventory and 25 Dragon Souls stored up. It's kind of a ridiculously overpowered weapon, but I think that's the fun of it, this definitely isn't a super balanced sword but I think that Skyrim could always use a few wepaons that just don't fit with the rest of the game's weapons.

Eltonbrand is the equivalent of a Dragonbone Sword with half the weight (and slightly more speed) and has the Dragon's Roar unique enchantment.

    o - 75 points of fire damage over 7.5 seconds (non-stackable)

o - 7 points of fire damage on hit

    o - 5% chance to disarm

o - This sword has a 1% chance to trigger the use of a random one-word Shout that the Dragonborn has access to. This kind of allows the sword to do just about anything but it's kind of random and might not always be what you want. This doesn't set that shout to cooldown in anyway, and isn't effected by anything that would normally boost the effectiveness of a Shout.
