‘I was born a beggar, raised on the streets; I stole from the rich and cheered with the poor.  For far too long I carried the shame of my family on my shoulders. But I swear by my forefathers’ graves, I will restore my family's honor. My ancestor was Emeric of Wayrest, High King of High Rock and leader of the Daggerfall Covenant, through my veins flows the same blood but I wear no crown as I pledge my loyalty to the people not vice-versa.  And though times of war are long gone, my blood is bound to these ancient treaties.

I lay my bow in the service of the Kingdom of Daggerfall and all its people, may my arrows pierce the heart of its enemies the moment they lay eyes on its walls and if I die, may it not be in vain to protect Daggerfall and its people.’

    Biography

Koraak was born to Pierric and Elaina Comberland in Wayrest, High Rock. His parents were poor merchants at the market of Wayrest although his father is a descendant of the 8th generation to High King Emeric, but the time of reign of the Cumberland bloodline is long forgotten through the land. Koraak grew up with beggars, merchants’ children and other poor people in the dark streets of Wayrest, and at an early age he taught himself to steal to survive. But although still a child he had quite a sense of justice and promised himself only to steal from those who had enough and only if he needed. Under the teachings of his father, who hoped his son would take his place someday, Koraak developed quite a good tongue for trading. But he never wanted to be a merchant because he always wished to join the Lion Guards and fight for his people. His father knew his dreams and crafted him a simple bow for his 10th birthday. Since this day Koraak improved himself in marksmanship and on his 20th birthday he went on a journey to Daggerfall, the headquarters of the Lion Guard, and joined their ranks. From this day on, his life changed completely. He was a quite motivated and good soldier and soon ways opened he never dreamed of. However, he never forgot where he came from; he visited regularly his parents and his friends in Wayrest and shared his wealth with them. Recently he was sent to Skyrim to investigate, spy and extract information about the rising war between the Empire and the Stormcloaks.

    Appearance

Skin color: a bit darker than most Breton, due to his Redguard blood.

    Height: about 5’8

Hair style and color: short dark brown hair and a short trimmed black beard

    Eye color: dark gold-brown

Body: slim and athletic, not as muscular and broad-shouldered as other knights of the Lion Guard, but still strong. Women usually find him attractive.

    Apparel & Gear:

                            Outside of battle:

Koraak wears a black hood and cowl, a black cuirass with blue and golden parts, a black robe covering his black pants to the knees, dark blue arm guards, black gauntlets and blue boots. He occasionally straps a beautifully forged Ebony dagger to his side, which he received from his father the day he left his homeland.

    Battle gear

For battle, Koraak wears a similar colored armor made of Ebony, as well as black arm guards and boots. He also wears a grey leather hood and a black mask. His favorite bow is a magically enchanted black bow forged by Dwemer. He retrieved this bow on Solstheim. As sword he uses a long, but narrow two-handed sword. Despite it being a rather heavy weapon to wield, Koraak can handle it quite well and is as dangerous with sword as he is with a bow. He always straps the sword on his back together with the bow and arrows. The dagger on his side is only used in self-defense against smaller enemies such as animals

    Additional information

Religious views:  As opposite to most Bretons, Koraak doesn’t worship the Eight Divines, however he learned very early that the Daedric Lord Nocturnal is responsible for his luck. He was introduced to her cult by beggars and common thieves and he was often present at the summoning day of Lady Luck.

Political views:  Koraak has pledged his allegiance to the people of Daggerfall since he became a member of the Lion Guard. Although his mission to Skyrim was not of diplomatic matter, nonetheless Koraak sided with the Imperials, as he saw a chance to strengthen his influence but also keep merchant relations between the Empire and High Rock. Koraak’s personal targets in Skyrim were gaining political influence by winning the Jarls as allies but also gaining influence in the underworld, joining the Thieves Guild and bring them back to power.

Education: Koraak is taught in the art of trading by his father and self-taught in the art of pickpocketing, lock picking and marksmanship. During his years in the Lion Guard Koraak was not only taught in the art of sword fighting (surprisingly Koraak prefers two-handed swords) but also in strategy and he almost mastered his archery skills to perfection.

Favorite food/drink: Koraak has quite a weakness for cheese and wine.

Qualities: Besides his good sense for justice, Koraak has also an excellent tongue for trading and is a cunning negotiator.

Flaws: Sometime Koraak just can’t resist to pickpocket some fine wine or delightful cheese he finds unguarded. He can become quite arrogant and even blinded by power if he has the possibility to use such power. Because of this flaw, Koraak served the Daedric Lord Boethia for a short time but in return he received the Ebony Mail, a powerful armor which is useful to him. Koraak despites this armor because of the deeds he needed to do, but he occasionally wears this armor to war.

Relationship status: Married to Sylgja and has a house with her in Whiterun.

Personality: If Koraak has anything inherited from his royal ancestor, High King Emerick, then it is his sense for negotiation. Koraak knows how to persuade other people, not by weapons but by his swift tongue. He can analyze a situation perfectly and knows how to use words to get what he wants. But he is no liar, he doesn’t betray or deceive other people to reach his goals. His excellent sense to analyze a problem also helps him to develop strategies for war which he has proven many times as Captain of the Lion Guard back in High Rock. Even as adult Koraak still stands by his oath to only steel from the rich and only when he needs to. He is a kind and helpful person and he won't reject if he is asked to help a stranger.

Koraak is rather a thinker and he prefers to not talk to other people if doesn't need to. Back in Wayrest he only had a handful of close friends. In the Lion Guard he never used his status as Captain to spend time with women although he had often the opportunity.

    Backstory

As soon as word about the conflict between the Stormcloaks and Imperials spread around Tamriel, every nation sent their ears and eyes to Skyrim, in hope to pick up important information and of course to join the winning side early enough. After all, there used to be three major alliances between the nations of Tamriel known as the Daggerfall Covenant, the Ebonheart Pact and the Aldmeri Dominion and some still have friendly connections.

The Lion Guard still keeps strong ties to their old Covenant allies, the Orks from the kingdom of Orsinium and the Redguards of Hammerfell. Koraak was sent with his division to the southwest border between Hammerfell and Skyrim to meet a group of Redguards to lead them to Skyrim. However their camp near Falkreath got raided by Imperials at night and everyone got either killed or captured. Koraak was lucky and survived the attack but was now being transported to Helgen where his fate would be decided by the Imperial Captain. It was decided that Koraak should be executed as criminal but the Gods (or Nocturnal) had other plans and he was able to escape certain death narrowly the moment the village was attacked by a dragon. After his escape through a Helgen tunnel, Koraak made his way to Riverwood with his new friend Hadvar, who promises him shelter, gear and provisions. Hadvar also mentions that Koraak may be a good soldier for the Imperial army.

Koraak’s next move was to go straight to the Imperial headquarter in Solitude and gather information about the conflict from the source itself. On his way, Koraak quickly learned about the doings of the Thieves Guild and decided to make his way to Riften and see for himself what the word is about.

Nice inclusion of ESO lore into the backstory, as well as interesting political and religious views. Leme know when this is restored to its former glory :)

Only a year late, eh Sparks?

Never got a chance to say what a good profile this is. Eventhough I really like the backstory, I would've loved him to have been a sausage chef or something, being called Cumberland and all that :P
