You know, there were like a thousand people talking about spears reeeeecently again so I decided to finally post what I replied to their crys of help - in form of a discussion.

    What you need:
    •Any unenchanted staff
-— They can be bought from Neloth on Solstheim. I prefer the conjuration one because it looks badass but all of them do just fine. Just.. stay away from the desctruction one, it doesn't look all too well. —
•Any one-handed weapon (works with bound weapons too)

    How it works:
Equip the unenchanted staff of your choice in the left hand and the weapon you chose in the right hand. Now hold block and bash away. It attacks about as fast as you can pull the trigger.

    Things to know:
•The bash will trigger your weapon's enchantment (if there is any) and the dmg rating, both every attack.
•You can use a sword/axe/mace and the Backstab perk to deal six times dmg with a sneak bash. The shrouded gloves can further increase this.
    - This, however, doesn't work with daggers although there is one exeption: the Bound Dagger. It does 15 times dmg with the Assassin's Blade perk. I guess this is because it is broken and rather acts like a sword. It will probably alert enemys rather than beeing silent.
•Every now and then, a bash will be replaced by a 'heavy bash', staggering the enemy. This can be abused to stun-lock the enemy.
•While you're holding block, most Block perks will work. Things like Quick Reflexes and Block Runner work perfectly, the rest is untested but I see no reason why Heavy, Deadly and Disarming Bash shouldn't.

So that's it for another (arguably probably) useful tip by me. Please comment your questions down below and also check out my other tricks, you might learn something interesting.

This little trick has been known about for a while now (Alastor's Oracle being perhaps the most notable example of it) but it's cool to see it getting more attention. I never thought of it as being used as a stand-in for spears though.

@Albino, Ikr. There also was that Telvani Wizard type of monk that used it with unarmed. However, the spear-patent is mine :P.

    @Noodles, that's what I thought when I created this :D.

Is there any known math on what determines which attack type procs?  Either the damage (from enchantment) or the bash/block?  I'm trying this out but seems to be a good 80-90% bash/block with minimal damage.

Also...does 1H perks affect this since you are blocking all the time?

For me (on xbox) it's rather the opposite.

I've tried the enchanted fork; then daggers and even a mace.  Keep getting owned as I am doing 0 damage to them.   Well, rereading I see daggers don't work.  But the fork was not and the mace was not either.  I'll try a few other weapon choices.

I guess it's not a mod or the u-patch that 'fixes' it?

I'm now testing with the bash attack and then just the enchanted weapon.  I am seeing "some" damage with the bash but I can 2-3 hit with just the weapon and it's 30-40 hits or more with the bash attack.
