I've managed to self teach myself pretty much everything I know how to do so far. Some of what I know with photoshop I managed to pick up on from studying Mason's work and talking with him.
I would go as far as saying self teaching is perhaps the best way to learn how to things like drawing, painting, and photoshopping. I gradually developed my own style as I studied online tutorials.
The best part of self teaching is looking back at your work from a few months or years ago and comparing it to what you can currently do. You never quite grow tired of seeing how far your skills have progressed
