Hello everyone, I would like to discuss self-teaching/online lessons. I usually teach myself via online lessons or tutorials on sites like YouTube or just anything I find on Google really. I select an area that needs work and I try and learn as much as possible in that area, eg. I am pretty bad at portraiture so I decided to learn about form and proportions so then I can press on to trying to produce a portrait and it is still...kinda bad but I am already seeing a big improvement. So I would like to ask you: 1) What do you thing about self-teaching yourself and/or online lessons/tutorials? 2) If you do take online lessons, what would you recommend?

I've managed to self teach myself pretty much everything I know how to do so far. Some of what I know with photoshop I managed to pick up on from studying Mason's work and talking with him.

I would go as far as saying self teaching is perhaps the best way to learn how to things like drawing, painting, and photoshopping. I gradually developed my own style as I studied online tutorials.

The best part of self teaching is looking back at your work from a few months or years ago and comparing it to what you can currently do. You never quite grow tired of seeing how far your skills have progressed

I completely agree and although I do take classes, sometimes my teacher doesn't fully understand what I need to work on so I work on that when I self teach myself. Also personally for me, it also allows me to branch out further because my college that I have applied to has both Art and Graphic design A level courses are at the exact same times on the time table so I can't do both because they conflict. So I just decided to roll with Graphic Design because that is more resource heavy and I don't currently own a tablet. Overall self-teaching is amazing.
