Meet National Novel Writing Month's much more relaxed cousin!

Welcome one and all to Camp NaNo which starts on the 1st of April 2017.

Some of you will undoubtedly remember that we ran two camps last year and this year will be no different. Well… yes it will be somewhat different.

The two camps we ran were last year was:

    Hippies and Hounds

Between the two groups we wrote a staggering 198,069 words....

We had a total of 20 members.

This year there will be two camps running. Now before everyone gets exited, camp 01 has a task which I’ve set out for them to beat. Over the next week I will be sending out personal invitations to specific members to join camp 01.

To all of you who do not receive an invite to camp 01, please don’t take offence. This is no slight to you.

To those of you who do receive an invite, think very carefully before you accept it. There will be a lot of pressure put upon you. Don’t take it lightly; if you feel you are unable to commit then it would be far better for you to refuse the invite and join camp 02.

    Camp 01

Our task, irrespective of how many members are in the camp is to clear 250,000 words. It comes down to simple maths. If there are 5 of us then we each NEED to clear 50,000 words. Anyone who fails to meet their target will by default increase everyone’s word count.

    Camp 02

This camp is open to all. The word count by default is 10,000 but you can adjust this to suite your own writing style and pace. If you are new to writing and to NaNoWriMo then this is a great opportunity to step beyond the threshold and join in. There’s no pressure here. Write what you can when you can and have fun writing.

NaNo camp is different from NaNoWriMo in a few ways.

    1. Camp NaNoWriMo lets you set your own word-count goal.

Only interested in a 10,000 word short story? Perfect! Feeling ambitious, like you might just reach 75k or 100k? That's perfect too!  The lowest your word-count goal can be is 10,000 words.

    1. Camp NaNoWriMo is open to all writing projects. Whether you want to write a novel, edit a close-to-final draft, or tackle a script, some short stories, or a nonfiction work, Camp NaNoWriMo welcomes any seed of inspiration.

You could even make your Camp NaNo project about lore articles or poetry or anything at all that strikes your fancy! I know a few of you have stories that you'd like to edit, that would absolutely count too. I for one will be editing previously un posted chapters. (Hircine knows I’ve lots of them).

The way Camp NaNo works, is that when you join, you get sorted into a writing group based on either age, genre or goals. Camp NaNo calls these "Cabins" and they can hold up to twelve people!

We will have our own cabins representing Tamriel Vault so to all of you who take part; we are the writers of TV. We will be representing our beloved blog so keep it clean and lets show the world who we are…

(Just so you know, in 2015, 431,626 people participated in NaNoWriMo. (633 different regions). Every year NaNo Camp and NaNoWriMo have grown. This really is a World Wide Event).

We will if necessary open a third cabin. No one will be left out if they want to take part. We will also have a discussion in TV TSC for everyone to support and help one another as well as yell our personal achievements.

For everyone here at The Story Corner, the goal isn't to out-write the other or try to complete their goal faster, it's to start a project and see it through to the end and to have fun doing so.

As members sign up I will add them here in their camps. So come on all you Writers, Scribblers and Claw scratchers.

Unlike last year all the heavy hitters will be in group one. This doesn’t mean the second group will be left to flail by themselves. I assure you all you will not be forgotten.

    Spotted Fawn wrote a quick guide to help members set their profiles up for NaNo Camp. For ease of reference, I’ve included it here;

     Hello Cabin-buddies! Spotted Fawn here;

    Some important additional information:

    Creating a private cabin:

If you’re acting as the cabin administrator, go to the Cabin Settings page and select “I want to create a private cabin.”

Once in your cabin, you can invite your friends by typing their usernames into the invitation field. You can invite up to 11 Campers. A Camper must have created a profile, a novel, and deselected “I don’t want cabin invitations this session” to be eligible.

    Joining a private cabin:

First, make sure you have defined a project for the upcoming event.

On your Cabin Settings page, make sure you have:

Selected “I don’t want to be included in a cabin” so you are not sorted into a random cabin,

Deselected the “I don’t want cabin invitations this session” option.

When you are invited to a private cabin, that invitation will pop-up the next time you log in, or refresh the Camp NaNoWriMo page. “Join Now” will take you to your new cabin home; “No Thanks” will delete the invitation.

    Sotek:

So there we go everyone. April the 1st. Camp NaNo….

This is open to all so if anyone who wants to have a go then please do so. All I need is your NaNo name so I can send an Invite.

Above all, have fun writing. You never know where the path will take you and you have no idea who you will meet on the way…

    Sotek Loyal Hound of Hircine.

Writing is always a skill I've greatly respected and wanted to do, but something I haven't actually gotten into. This seems like a really cool event, Sotek. What's the end date, though?

    Awwwooo RougeSilver

End date is April the 30th. Now for all of you wanting to take part but you feel a bit nervous, join in. It's a relaxed atmosphere and its about creating and setting your own goals. It doesn't matter if you only write a short story; what matters is that you take part and have fun.

Thanks, Sotek! The only thing that's holding me back is that I'm not entirely sure I could come up with 10,000 words in a little less than two months. The most I've written before in a single document is around the 3k mark, lol.

Wow, just two days within my temporary break and there's already Camp NaNo coming around the corner. LOL. You know my decision is, Sotek. Sign me in.
