The New Ranks

The recent poll about the future of ranks in Skyrim CB is over now. This discussion is meant to enact what that poll determined. First a quick rundown of the results…

42% chose to create a new ranking system that relaxed the requirement threshold and would run alongside the old ranking system.

25% wanted to keep the old ranking system but lower the requirements threshold for each rank.

17% wanted to make ranks voluntary instead of compulsory

14% wanted to do nothing and leave it just as it is

So it looks like what the community wants is lower requirements (67%) so that’s what I propose we do, create a new set of ranks that have a lower threshold which is more in line with the current sites structure and priorities. Below is my proposal for “Skyrim Special Edition Ranks”. In addition to the new ranking system (which will run alongside the old classic ranking system) I’m also removing the compulsory rule making the use of ranks completely voluntary. You can use which ever ranking system you choose and can even use both. The new ranks can be retroactively applied to old builds per the builder’s discretion with one caveat. The new ranks don’t take the historic number of likes into consideration only the number of likes that the build currently displays here on the Social Engine version of the site. Below is my proposed break down for the new ranking system.

    SE Rank:Novice: 0-5 likes

    SE Rank:Apprentice: 6-10 likes

    SE Rank:Adept: 11-15 likes

    SE Rank:Expert: 16-20 likes

    SE Rank:Master: 21+ likes

That’s my proposal let me know where I went wrong. ;P

Not a builder myself (Only a lurker here really), but I think these new Ranks should be perfect. The only change I would suggest is making the "SE" stand for SocialEngine, rather than the Special Edition of Skyrim, but that's just my take. Regardless, I think the actual Ranks themselves are good, as I said, and I especially like the idea of using in-game difficulty levels!

Thanks for your feedback Caesar.  I like the seredipity of SE being able to stand for either Social Engine or Special Edition so we could just call them SE Ranks and leave it open to interpretation.  Most new members aren't going to understand the difference between Ning and Social Engine so for them it would just look like Special Edition.

I thought using the difficulty levels was clever (pats self on back) and they are also spell ranks in the magic schools so double reference. ;)

Looks good Vargs! No issues from me here. 21+ Likes is an achievable goal to those who want something to strive for, while the option to not apply a rank tag for those to whom likes are less important seems like a good solution. Before we had different rank structures for event builds, I'm guessing that doesn't matter anymore and that your new structure applies equally to regular and event builds?

Thanks Paws and yes there will be no event or contest SE Ranks just the normal one that will apply to all types of builds.  Recently it seems that event and contest builds get more attention anyway so if anything they would have an even easier time ranking up then the normal builds.

Eh sure the ranks are alright and all but can we talk about that tag, it's an absolutely amazing one and we should use it for everything :P

I'm a fan of the ranks, and especially the entire system of it only applying it to likes here, it's just an overall good system

I like your idea, Vargr. Seems good to me. Though I worry that only builds that represent the epitomy of perfection will get 21+ likes because I think the highest number of likes I've seen is something like 14. But I dunno.

I think Lis' Outsider is about to pass 40. There's a few builds around in the 30's too. So we got em! Stick around, it's a growing list.

Yeah, it's definitely possible. I mean, I hit 17 with a build for the Follow Me, Follow You Event back in June (I think it was June) so it's not impossible to hit but it's also not that easy.
