Jack has had many faces, many names. He is Morpheus, Nott, Caer Ibormeith, and the Sand Man. Inexorable as death, and fate, he is lord of the twilight realms, of sleep and midsummer, he is...

    The Jack of Dreams

    "Around around came Nimble Jack,

    Tumbling through the window-crack,

With magic stick and magic sack,

He came to bring the nightmares back."

    ~ Nord children's rhyme

A challenging, role-play heavy play through, the Jack of Dreams relies on an immersive, rather than gameist problem solving, focused chiefly on personal narrative building. Use him to tell a story. Build a legend.

"Are you a Daedra?" asked the Priestess of Dibella.

"Perhaps," smiled Jack, from ear to ear.

    Gameplay:

    The Perks

For the Nords, Old Jack is somewhere half way between a folk hero and the boogeyman. A trickster Archetype, He is rumored to posses magical objects of considerable power, the Cloak of Darkest Night (Ebony Mail) capable of making him invisible, a magic knife that can end any life, and a staff, made from the skull of his unfaithful lover (Skull of Corruption), though there is some discrepancy on this last account. What is known for sure is Jack's intimate ties with sleep, dreams, and nightmares. If one awakens from nightmare, they often wonder what they've done to offend the mischievousness jack, but they leave out a bottle of mead on the windowsill the next night, just to be safe.

Who Jack is up to you. Is he an outcast Daedric Prince? A powerful Sorcerer, or Vampire, living on through the ages, Or perhaps, he is a mere mortal, who has decided to make the legend real. What matters is legend.

Your first order of business is the collection of your scattered artifacts. Ebony Mail, from Boethia, The Skull of Corruption from Vaermina, your trusted stead, Shadowmere. You shall acquire them as you play through the game, eventually making yourself whole.

As you may have noticed, your skills are largely non-combative. Jack is silent as a shadow, quick as silver moonlight. He often avoid combat, or kills opponents before they even know there is a fight. You have three major sources of damage:

The First is Dreams (Poisons). Through Alchemy and various magics, you can fabricate dreams, and leave them with sleepers you visit in the night.

The Second is with your Quickblade, with the power to kill any creature. This is sneak attacks with your improved and enchanted Ebony Dagger.

The Third is your Staff, your signature artifact. The Skull of Corruption, once fed off dreams, can be sued to release powerful area of effect pulses to raze opponents.

Defensively speaking, you use a combination of your improved Ebony Gear and the Ebony Flesh granted by Alteration. Jack is nimble, Jack is quick, tumbling is also nice.

    Roleplaying:

Let yourself slip into the world, as your major goal is to make your character a deep rooted part of it.

Your primary goal is the reacquisition of your lost belongings. You had them once, long long ago. A magic sack, without end, a cloak of eternal night, a dagger in your name, and a staff in your own right. This will involve dangerous brushes with various Daedra, cutthroat assassins, the sleepless dead, and a whole host of other foul entities that inhabit the shadows along side you. You must steal dreams to retain your powers, you must also occasionally collect souls, as well as various magical reagents.

You are not evil. You are not good. As impartial as time and tide, you are a force of the cosmos. The mortal world cannot exist without dream. Do what forwards your ultimate quest. If that means helping mortals, so be it, if it means killing them, so be that too. When you preform actions, frame them in a real world with history, people, and rumors. Think, how will that be seen, you crept into someone's chamber to fuel your staff, and they woke up, you stealthed back into the shadows...

"I awoke from a nightmare, I don't even remember why it was so terrible, there was a skull...and... a man. When I opened my eyes, it was still the dead of night. The moons cast their twin lights through my open balcony window, but though the dream faded, the man remained. Tall and dark, he stood by the side of my bed, wreathed in shadows, writhing like snakes. I blinked, rubbed the sleep from my eyes, and when they opened again, he was gone, and my balcony doors rattled in the breeze. All I could think of was that silly child's rhyme, I don't know whats gotten into me." ~ Ingun Blackbriar of Riften

    Old Jack's a-whistlin' again"

~Often muttered by Bjorn the Elder on black winter nights when the wind blows high and cold.

The Skull is what started it all. Its just such a unique artifact, then the build unfolded from there. Glad you like!
