My offering for our Fallout Character Building event, Stranger Things is a take on the classic Universal Horror icon, The Creature from the Black Lagoon. I love the pervasive 50's horror vibe in the Far Harbor DLC (and this build probably should not be tackled without it). I mean, c'mon - there's even a drive-in movie theater in Far Harbor playing "Night of the Fish Man's Revenge!" Additionally, I thought long time members of the Tamriel Vault might recall a series of amazing monster builds on the ES side by none other than Vargr White-Tree, featuring the Mythic BuildThe Creature of Lake Ilinalta! Here's my own Fallout-ified rendition.

    Backstory:

Deep in the northeastern fog swamps of Far Harbor, the last evolutionary connection between man and pre-historic amoebic swamp-thing survives. Nuclear fallout radiation seeps into the creature's skin, making him near immortal, emboldened and enraged at the very sight of humanity.

Scientific explorers and inquisitive minds from nearby Acadia, led by the beautiful, but definitely confused Kasumi Nakano accidentally discover the Creature in the fog and a harrowing tale ensues. Read on at your own peril, for this is no love story.

    Character Customization:

      Class: Unarmed Dark Aqua Boy

      Special: S1 P5 (6) E 8 C 2 (3)* I 1 A 9 L 2 (5)

Notes* - Special Book in CHR, Bobblehead in PER, LUCK and Unarmed. +2 Investment in Luck.

Gear: Marine Wetsuit, Assault Gas Mask

Weapons: Unarmed, Sharp Knuckles, Meat Hook (Butcher's Hook)

      Perks:

Iron Fist - damage with hands and claws

Aqua Boy - a perfect RP fit, but also immensely helpful in Far Harbor's radioactive fog. Just take a dip and swim across the island to avoid constant Radaway use. Likewise on the mainland, use water as your main form of transit. Especially quick with the Wasteland Survival Guide #7.

Night Person - mostly RP, though the INT boost is helpful to balance leveling without questing.

Rank 2 adds night vision in crouching which is neat.

Cannibal - one of the main ways to heal is feeding off your kills

Sneak/Blitz will be the main attack mechanism

Lone Wanderer - you are indeed all alone, the only of your kind

Bloody Mess - Didn't think we were going to skip this one, did you?

Idiot Savant - without questing, leveling up can be a bit of a slow grind without this handy perk. Invest a few points in Luck and make it happen!

From Acadia, Kasumi led a small group through the fog to find the source of the sound. A series of  spine tingling shrieks had been heard consistently over the past few weeks. The blood curdling  screams echoing their way up the mountain from the west to their observatory had prompted DIMA to agree to let a few brave explorers out to make contact with the Children of Atom.

As the group approached the known location of the Nucleus, something was obviously wrong. DIMA had told them to expect guards. All that was left was torn flesh and blood everywhere. What happened here? No sign of gun fire. No foot prints. As Kasumi investigted a nearby pond, she thought she caught a glimpse of a shadowy figure sliding deep uderwater. The smooth, dark green skin was oily and almost black. Was it a gulper? It looked more human. What was that?

    Getting Started

Grab a wastelander’s outfit or army fatigues and assault gas mask. Cover yourself, gill-man! Don’t talk to anyone, freak! Find cover in the only place that feels like home – water! Pick your way carefully to the northeast corner of the map. “Steal” a boat and get to Far Harbor. Find the Nucleus and kill the guards mercilessly for their Marine wetsuit. Stalk Fletcher at Horizon Flight 1207 and snag the Butcher's Meat Hook. Now that you look the part, time to terrorize the island.

The search party followed a lead to the north. A faint signal from the old Eden Meadows Cinema was coming through faintly and fuzzy on the radio. Could someone, or something be there? As night drew near, Kasumi led the group toward a flickering light in the distance. The old drive in was working? How is that possible? She investigated the screen and found a whole horde of ghouls, hacked to their benevolent end.

The rest of the group stayed to log the findings and look for evidence as Kasumi investigated the control room. She flicked on a circuit and the second screen suddenly came to life, startling her. As "Attack of the Fishmen" started playing she saw a shadow duck behind the screen and slide into the murky water nearby. The same oily skin as before. This was no coincidence...

Gameplay is fairly straight forward unarmed stealth / blitz. Lot's of edible trickeration - Gulper Slurry (invisibility), Double harvesting (wasteland magazine at Sunshine Tidings), also playing around with bear and cal traps, useless as they are. Plan ahead. Stalk your prey. You can't be stimpaking every 5 minutes, so make sure to hunt and cook your heals. Oh, and eat your fresh kills. Keep your health topped off. Use water as your ally. Hide, sneak, dive, trick, kill, repeat.

    Questing, Companions, Etc

Besides talking to the Nakano's and Captain Avery to get into Far Harbor, official quests should be kept to a minimum. Spend a lot of time exploring Far Harbor and hunting....beasts and humans alike. Hone your skill with easier targets like gulpers and smaller groups of Trappers. On the Mainland, swim to destinations for bobblehead retrieval. Move up to wiping out the rest of the Children of Atom and eventually Far Harbor. Acadia is initially spared as the monster has developed a curiousity with Kasumi. One Quest that sort of fits the vibe was "Here There Be Monsters", albeit only in theory.

Back at Acadia, the group huddled around a radio as a distress signal from Far Harbor crackled through. It was Brooks, in a hushed, terrified voice, saying "They're dead...they're all dead...we never even saw it. Oh god, I don't know what to do. We......"

    The transmission ended upruptly.

    1. Spend a lot of time in water. Explore the depths. Some especially interesting swampy locations are Old Gullet Sinkhole (grab the swim faster Wasteland Survival Guide), Chestnut Hillock Reservoir (find the treasure!), swim the rivers and coasts, check out Spectacle Island and get the Luck bobblehead),

    2. Healing can only be done with food, consumables & cannibalism. No Stimpaks!

    3. Use The Log Cabin as a home base on Far Harbor or maybe just hole up in Eden Meadows Cinema using a MOD to place a Workshop.

    4. Talk to as few people as ‘humanly’ possible. (see what I did there?)

    5. Obtain the Astoundlingly Awesome Tales "Attack of the Fishmen" and Wasteland Survival Guide #7 (swim 25% faster)

Along with an armed escort, Kasumi went north to Far Harbor in hopes of finding survivors. But just as before, none were found. The dead were mauled and hacked to death. It was a gruesome scene. What drove the beast to such fury? Just then, gunshots...yelling and confusion echoed through the remains of Far Harbor. Kasumi called out to her party. No response. Emerging from the dark waters, at long last, the creature locked eyes with Kasumi. She didn't scream. For what seemed like an eternity, it didn't move. Trembling, Kasumi called out..."Why?!"

It was the last word she spoke.

    Final Thoughts

This heavy roleplay build has been some time coming. It started when I first played Far Harbor and was charmed by the 50s horror vibe. Hope you found this build to be a love letter of sorts to this end. I've intentionally not made a video for this build. I got so many awesome screenshots, I decided to go that route. For MOD suggestions, depending on your system, trying "Conquest" or a similar one that allows workbench construction anywhere is helpful. Thanks to those who chimed in during the Workshop phase. Postman, Long-Chapper, & Asher. If you like FO4 builds, check out my Motty Build Tag for all 13 of them.

This is awesome, Motty. Though my only complaint is that the Character Customization part seems to be in shambles if you know what I mean. Other than that, great job, man.

Another awesome display as always Motty, didn't have a chance to stop by the Workshop for any of the builds this time round.

I feel like I'm behind though, don't even have my WiP up yet lol

Thanks. Are you looking on mobile? It looks freaking terrible on mobile haha. Tried some different thing in presentation this time. After 13 builds hahah

Maybe it's not ideal. IDK. Appreciate you reading and the feedback.

No, I am not on mobile. It is just that with the two pictures beside the written makes everything look compacted like if there was a space or indented it would better, but that may just be also.

    Also, no problem, man.

No Motty vid? I feel cheated :p That Astoundingly Awesome magazine art is such a blatant copy of Black Lagoon, I love it. Also I like that this was inspired by another build :)
