This build came about as I prepped for Nuka World. With the description that we would be able to lead raider gangs into the Commonwealth I wanted a charismatic, dark leader to bend weak settlers to their knees. And, honestly, because I really wanted to have a domineering character swinging a big freaking hammer while getting hammered. Atom’s Judgment is the biggest stick around and when wielded in Power Armor, you actually swing it one handed and get some pretty entertaining bludgeoning kill cams. The final piece of this build puzzle is the Party Boy perk. Boosting the effects of alcohol (specifically Strength) make melee damage soar. What better way to roleplay as the (over) Boss?

    SPECIAL Notes:

    Special Book – STRENGTH

Bobbleheads – PER, CHR, LUCK, Melee, Repair

    Investments - STR, LUCK

    Character Profile:

The deadly combination of physically dominant, charismatic and highly intelligent, The Boss is destined to lead lesser men. He does so with domineering strength embodied by the giant sledgehammer he swings with ease in his scavenged power armor. He uses charm, intimidation and intellect to outwit any and all who stand to interrupt his ascension to power. And the weak of mind will fall in line to build his army of chaotic warriors. His prowess is further heightened by the constant stream of alcohol coursing through his system.

    Perks:

Big Leagues – Obvious damage boosting for melee.

Rooted – A good pairing as it procs in VATS.

Nuclear Physicist – double dip by boosting Power Armor range with Radiation Damage for Atom’s Judgment.

Party Boy – achieve intense levels of drunken strength and charisma with Dirty Wastelanders (+6 STR) and other alcoholic drinks. Nuka Dark is a nice addition.

Rifleman – I did carry a scoped combat rifle for turrets and such and later in the game perked rifleman a few times to make the damage respectable.

Bloody Mess – if you’re going to hit people with hammers and bats, why not?

Blacksmith – Customize your tools and Power Armor.

Science – To customize your armor - mostly I love the Jet Pack.

Armorer – Again for (Power) Armor customization and Level 4 is needed for the Jet Pack, if you want it.

Pain Train – Ram, sweep, repeat.

Optional Late RP Additions: Inspirational, Wasteland Whisperer, Intimidation with investment in CHR.

    Build Details:

Weapons: Atom’s Judgment, Cito's Shiny Slugger, Scoped Combat Rifle

Consumables: All booze and especially Dirty Wastelanders, Nuka Dark, and anything that increases Strength.

Raider Faction: Pack Alpha (increase DMG resistance + increase melee damage), and/or Chosen Disciple (Restore some AP with VATS Melee Kills). Finishing the Nuka World DLC by favoring the Pack and Disciples, you can get both of these which greatly enhances your run and smash technique.

Gear: Raider duds and power armor of your choice early, later grab the slick Quantum X01 PA from the Star Core quest in Nuka World.

Companion: NONE / Gage – his extra XP companion perk (Lessons in Blood) helps extend your leveling enjoyment later into the game, and he’s the only Raider follower.

    Getting Started:

One thing to think about long term, if you’re going to take over settlements in the Commonwealth, you really need them to be functional in order to provide your raider outposts with food and supplies. This creates a little RP problem, as you basically have to join the Minutemen, build up the settlements, and then force them into serving your horde later in the game. (Check out this guide for more details). I RP’d this as outsmarting the dimwitted Preston, and honestly, betraying him felt quite rewarding.

That being said, get started by snagging Raider and Power Armor and leveling up your Melee prowess. Take Party Boy and start collecting and drinking alcohol. Snag as much whiskey as you can and plant some mutfruit to make Dirty Wastelanders, your drink of choice. Keep in mind, this is not a sneak/blitz melee character and as such, soaking up some damage is neccesary. This makes donning power armor important and you'll want to spend most of your time protected. Scavange the best you can and keep it well maintained.

When you’re up for it, join the Children of Atom in Far Harbor and retrieve your reward – Atom’s big freaking hammer.

As soon as you’re level 30, head to Nuka World where the real game begins. Make sure to favor the Pack and Disciples, which will eventually yield the two excellent Melee perks (Pack Alpha, Chosen Disciple). Sidenote, Cito’s Shiny Slugger is a real nice alternative/compliment to the hammer (A free, non-legendary rocket bat can be obtained in the Pack's digs). Conquer Nuka World, and the Commonwealth is yours for the taking!

    Combat & Closing Notes:

Traditional Melee is augmented by alcohol and opening up access to Pain Train and Level 4 Big Leagues. Knock down multiple opponents and sweep them into oblivion (shameless ES reference for my two-handed peeps). Carry a decent rifle for taking out turrets.

Are you down with OP? Recognize that combining the Strength boosts of alcohol with the melee bobblehead, Nuka World perks, Nuclear Physicist (Atom’s Judgement), Rooted /Critical VATs multipliers and even Grognak’s comic bonus, you can swing for about 8000 damage if you want to. Certainly, being that overpowered is not needed, but when you’re playing for the 13th time, you gotta keep it interesting right? If you want a more competitive playthrough - don't perk Big Leagues as much.

8000 damage? This guy would tank Alduin in only a few blows. HAHA

    Nice build, Motty. :)

It gets pretty crazy - here's a screenshot of the base hammer damage under the influence: (dmg: 928, heating coil: 128, rad: 1289 = 2345 total!)

Meh - to be honest, I really like how everyone just calls you "boss" around nuka world. Like, it actually made it pretty immervise.

You can still do a sweet MGS crossworlds build man. Put your own touch on it.

I use Photoshop. The base elements are in the Template I made here on the site. I've also offered my humble skills for those interested in having a similar style player card.

Well, I might try my hand at that. My Shadow Operator was inspired, in part by Solid Snake. Might go either Naked/Venom Snake, or a number of other characters

@ Motty - "dmg: 928, heating coil: 128, rad: 1289 = 2345 total!" Excuse the poor formatting as I'm on my phone, but half the stuff in the Commonwealth is immune to the Radiation damage, effectively halving damage. That's not to say it doesn't hit like a truck, but the numbers are a bit deceiving.

Yeah - of course if you're up against rad-resistant enemies, you're ONLY doing 1000+ damage lol.

But seriously, this guy could use a switchblade against most foes. I wasnt trying to be misleading, and I dont' have firm numbers on the bonuses. But, yeah the warning at the end is that if you don't want to one-hit everything, be judicious with perks.
