[SPOILERS] What were your most memorable Fallout moments?

To some of the older members around here, it's no secret that I greatly disliked Fallout 4 when it came out. The interface controls felt wacky, the roleplaying possibilities were set in stone due to Nora/Nate's backstory *cough* Secret Origins *cough*, only one major faction could be joined in the end and other tiny bits. But weirdly enough, the game's world building kept pulling me back to the extent that I re-installed the game a total of four times. Luckily, on the fourth time I had recently read a ground breaking novel in which the world was similar to Fallout's (Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? by Phillip K. Dick) and in consequence I started viewing the game from a brand new perspective. This and I also knew all of the game's faults enough to avoid them and enjoy its good side. Plus, I had an awesome Red'n Rad' character build in mind which later became dare I say one of my best. Yeah, it's the Neuromancer. Everything up to this point was to me an interesting journey considering that it all further led up to some of my most memorable Fallout gaming moments. And this is where I wanted to get to, a discussion in which we can share those Fallout experiences that will stick with us for years to come. As I specified in the title, this is an all SPOILERS discussion so if you feel like you haven't played the games enough, stop right here and leave the topic.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. [FALLOUT 4 RAILROAD SPOILERS] My first memorable moment goes way back to the distant early days of developing my Neuromancer. I think that everyone knows by now that I tend to exclusively play Fallout 4 on the Railroad side. Even though as revealed in the ending, Desdemona can be an extremist b!tch, I am 100% for helping the synths live a free, normal life. Every synth that succeeds in escaping the Institute demonstrates to me a certain strength of character. Each one of them chooses to rise above their condition against overwhelming odds and stick it those arrogant bastards with a god complex. I remember my first and only mission with Glory. On the surface, it didn't feel like something extraordinary but somehow in the back of my mind I made a bond with her on that day based admiration and comradery. Strangely, I wasn't aware of it at all until the Brotherhood of Steel invaded the Railroad HQ and I found myself listening to Glory's final words. Her death hit me like a truck. I was plain furious, not at the game, but at the npcs who had done this - total immersion. I was out for blood. When the time came to dock on the Prydwen in order to counter attack, I slaughtered everyone aboard and made sure to collect all their holotags. I even photoshopped the following picture.

    2. [FALLOUT 4 BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL SPOILERS] My second memorable moment happened while playing my Samurai. I was set on finishing the game on the Brotherhood side. I had both the backstory and the roleplaying suited for them, even though I wasn't fond at all of their stand on synths, an opinion I made it known any time I had the chance. But a Samurai is a warrior bound to a master, in this case Elder Maxson. Disobeying him would've meant dishonor, the choice of a Ronin - a fate worse than death to my character. So I carried on and followed orders to the letter. But then the day came when I found out that Danse, the man who brought me into the Brotherhood, was actually a synth. Without any waste of time I was personally sent by Maxson to track down and eliminate the monstrosity (in his opinion). Roleplaying my character, I was deeply conflicted as to what I would do when facing Danse. I remember riding the elevator down at Listening Post Bravo, (in my mind) nervously clenching my Katana and asking myself repeatedly "What will I do?". The elevator stopped, the doors opened and I stepped out moments before cutting down a protectron in self defense. Past a transparent panel I saw Danse for the first time outside his power armor, defenceless. I made my choice. I sheathed my blade, imagining that I impaled it into the ground and exited my power armor. I went on to talk to Danse, trying to help him escape this mess, but he wouldn't listen. He would have none of it. He kneeled before me, arms behind his back and layed down his head. I stood there further contemplating for a second until I told myself "No", turned around and left without having a second glance. I would tell Maxson to stick it up his a$$ and leave the Brotherhood for good. But when the elevator reached the top, I was shaken up really good by a quest message saying Danse was dead. In my eyes he commited suicide and I dared not go back to make sure. Rage came over me once again and one clear thought emerged in all the chaos "They all die. Today.". Both the Brotherhood of Steel and the Institute met their ends on that day and my character started walking the path of a Ronin without any regrets. No Synth would ever go through this again.

    3.  My third most memorable moment in Fallout 4 took place very recently at Cliff's Edge Hotel in Far Harbor while playing my upcoming Radio Stars build, the Cyberpunk. Given my new character's obvious traits (bright yet rebellious, technologically addicted punk), she enjoys the company of Curie the most... maybe a bit too much. She most definitely has a crush on her. And there I was, at the hotel, with Curie, still in her Mr. Handy body, being escorted by Pearl into Vault 118. Suddenly, ghouls started attacking from all directions and midway though the firefight Curie was defeated, lying motionless on the ground. As expected, I rushed to her aid with the intent of patching her with a repair kit. I approached her in a hurry from the left side and upon applying the one-off device, something really cool happened. Her still shut eyes turned to me and suddenly opened widely revealing what looked like huge puppy eyes saying two sincere words "Thank you!".

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That about covers all my most memorable experiences in Fallout 4. Feel free to comment on them or share your own from any of the Fallout games!

Cool deal Noodles.  Very interesting thoughts.

Awesome memories Noodles! The Glory death really gutted me too the first time I went RR. Honestly, I wish they had fleshed out her sotry with some more missions. She is such a cool character. Have you ever played the BOS / Danse decision with a really high CHR character? I did this recently and you can convince him to leave with you...but when you get outside Maxon has flown in... it's a pretty epic showdown. That is definitely one of my memories...standing there trying to decide whether to take on Maxon or finish the job...somewhere I have the saved video of me putting a .44 slug into Danse.

I vividly remember standing in the Institute the first time talking with Father...with the game paused for quite a while, wondering what I was going to do. I had exhausted all dialogue options. How would my character respond? Not feeling like I knew enough I decided to stay and walk around a bit. I investigated his terminal, talked to everyone and made my decision. To side with my new friends the Minutemen over the monstrousity my son has become.

I think one of the most under appreciated parts of FO4 is how the writers put you on a black and white decision in a world that is frequently grey.  Sure, there are plenty of stumbles in the writing here and there, but I've never felt so torn in a game as some of the things you're talking about.

Even the first time you meet Art and Art...what do you do?

stuff like that sticks with me.

They surprised me too. Especially Glory.

I know about the Charisma option but I didn't know the outcome. That's very cool because you are immediately pushed to take responsibility for your choice.

The choice after THAT plot twist was tough to make. I remember acting the same. Learning everything that I could about the Institute and what they do. But after I saw how synths are treated I made a hard call too. And then there's that moment when you're obligated to look Father in the eye right before you blow it all to pieces. I admit, as much as I like Skyrim, Fallout 4 shook me up way more in a good way.

Again the High Chrisma option with Father at the very end is a pretty crazy feeling...getting him to sort of help you felt pathetic but also a little validating.

Playing high CHR really changes the game...a lot. IMO

Oh, I used mind control on him back then and did not regret it. Let the bastard burn!

I would have to say that my most memorable moment was in New Vegas. It was the first time I had ever played Lonesome Road, and I was trying to decide what to do with Ulysses. In one way, I was furious at him, but in another way I really felt bad for him. Plus, the area you meet him in is pretty cool. I ended up letting him live, but wasn't sure if I should have. Then I immediately had to decide which faction(s) to nuke, if any. Ending the DLC and seeing the mushroom cloud in the distance was pretty memorable. Easily one of my favorite moments in the game, if not for the choices then for the idea of the two couriers uniting against the chosen faction.

I was thinking about this again and the other thing that comes to mind is when you're travelling in the wasteland and a few random encounters clash with known spawns...for example when you're tracking Kellogg with dogmeat and you hit that one part of the train tracks by the waystation with the torture room scene: There's ALWAYS a yao guai there. But sometimes a pack of feral ghouls or bloodbugs or mongrel dogs also spawn. And once, there was a roving group of Supermutants. I can't recall which character I was playing but all 4 of these happened to me and I managed to survive with like 1HP left. It's those sort of momentous, unpredictable occurences that never get old.

That kind of stuff is beautiful. Same thing happened to me in my first playthrough, but I was probably less prepared than you. I died very quickly to some ghouls.
