“To all scholars of Tamriel and beyond,

The House of Orsinium Glories once again calls upon your aid. During our recent investigations into the marvels of the Tamrielic Fauna we’ve come to discover how little people know about the lesser daedra and more importantly how often these creatures are confused far more mundane animals or monsters. When consequently interviewed on their opinions on the lesser daedra most people would immediately curse the princes and point our heretic hearts to the nearest shrine to the divines (as expected the opposite happened in Orsimer and Dunmer territories).

Which brings us to the aim of this message.  You may remember a similar missive making it to your favourite brew house this Rain’s Hand concerning the creatures of Tamriel. After delving into the depths of the Tamrielic Fauna we’ve decided it was time to expand the Mysterium Bestia with a second opus. The first work, which was published after receiving the research collected in Rain’s Hand describes the creatures of Tamriel itself and the second work, which we shall name the Bestia Infinium, will approach the subject of the lesser daedra and all other creatures dwelling on the other planes of existence.

To most conjurers a lot of the creatures from beyond the plane of Nirn are extremely familiar or at least one would hope so, and while we strive to publish a work that could teach even an expert on the Daedra, the main objective of this second work is to serve as a first step in cauterising the stigma created by the Oblivion Crisis when ignorance and fear drove men and mer to fear not just the daedra but those who were versed in the art of summoning them.

By furthering the understanding of the lesser daedra in the masses we, at the House of Orsinium Glories, hope to ease the tension that exists between summoners and the populace, not only by showing the people of Tamriel that the creatures of Oblivion can be just as beautiful and intriguing as those we find on our own plane but also by teaching conjurers more about the daedra they summon.

To achieve this goal it is paramount that all those engaging in scholarly pursuits and all those who hunt these creatures and summon these creatures send their knowledge and observations to Orsinium.

    -Friendly regards,

Matthaeus Belladonc, Resident Biologist and Chief Scholar of the House of Orsinium Glories.”

Welcome to the Lore group for the second event in the Bestiary series. This time it’s all about the lesser daedra. Those strange and horrible creatures that overran Kvatch in Cyrodiil, that guarded many a daedric ruin in Morrowind and that have been hurling fireballs, lightning bolts and huge frozen fists at your and your enemies’ faces since 2011. Yeah, those motherfuckers.

I was hesitant to make the follow up event to the Mysterium Bestia another bestiary event but after popular outcry as a result of a short poll I’ve run over the last few days I was convinced otherwise. However, this also means that I do indeed expect 25 entries people! If you voted you’re going to make a goddamn article, do we understand each other? :P

There is actually a small twist to this event though. According to the TES lore calendar the sixth of Hearthfire, also known as the sixth of September, is the date of a popular festival in areas of High Rock. This festival is called the Khurat and according to the UESP:

“Every town and fellowship in the Wrothgarian Mountains celebrates Khurat, the day when the finest young scholars are accepted into the various priesthoods. Even those people without children of age go to pray for the wisdom and benevolence of the clergy.”

The Lore group isn’t exactly what I would call “clergy” but I liked the idea of offering a bit extra to the lore novitiates most events attract. So for this event only, in the spirit of the Khurat anyone who posts their first article for this event will be entered into a list. After the event I’ll make a post promoting the articles on that list. If you want an idea of what it will look like I suggest you give the Story Corner Hidden Gem posts I wrote back in the day a read.

    Rules:

-Your findings have to be formulated as a lore article. You can do it in from your character’s perspective or from your own; it doesn’t really matter.

-All articles will need to be posted between 05-09-2017 and 19-09-2017 12pm Central European Time (that’s what you get when your host is european :p) If absolutely necessary I will extend the event period.

-Articles should be named as follows: "Bestia Infinium: title of your choosing".

-Completed articles need to be posted with the following tags: "Bestia Infinium" and "Event Article"

-Those that post a completed article will receive a beautiful badge

-Articles have to pertain to lesser daedra. Which excludes things like Werewolves etc despite of the fact that they could theoretically be found in Oblivion.

-In honour of the Khurat: If this is your first ever Article posted in the Lore group make sure to mention it here and I’ll make sure to add your article(s) to the list.

    Guidelines and hints:

-For this event the older games may come in crucial. If you don’t own them be sure to head over to classics and ask around for help as most of these creatures have appeared in the older games but only a few have been shown in Skyrim.

-You could have a look at the “social” structure of the creatures, after all most lesser daedra can be seen as sort of intelligent.

-Try to find an explanation for strange features about the animal, in this case some real world biological knowledge might be helpful (a lore scholar mindset works wonders as well). If this won’t work and it probably won’t in a lot of cases try to think of magical reasons as to why these features would be present.

-A simple approach could be to see if the creature can be summoned, how difficult this would be and what one would need to do it.

-If you need any inspiration as to what creature you want to approach don’t hesitate looking at the art I’ve used for this page, there may just be some inspiration.

-Don’t hesitate to contact me, I’m always ready to discuss any ideas or hypothesis you may have. Don’t be surprised if I send you through to a different member of the community, after all I’m not omniscient.

-If you want to get some guidance on your article don’t hesitate to post a WiP in the workshop, if you drop a link here I might very well drop by from time to time to help and give you some pointers.

Dammit Tein, you've taken the best pictures already! How can anyone do a Golden Saint article now without resorting to very provactive imagery? :P At least you left the Mazken alone :D

Can I call dibs on Scamps? :) Might need a bit of help, as I've only played Skyrim and a little of ESO, but I think it would be fun to write about them through a certain character's perspective!

Hmm I've never done a lore article before, but writing about clannfears from the perspective of my eso sorceror is very tempting

Sometime It could be super awesome to actually make the Bestia Infinum an actual book / E-book, I might actually just do that at some point when I get the new PS.

Anyways I'm in, and as always I'll be writign from the perspective of Emrar Charime Oricano Laratheous.

Sure, sounds great, what topic do I sign you up for?

In any case if you were to make a good looking e-book for the Bestia Infinium I would love to give it a look. If it works it could be great to do the same for the Mysterium Bestia.

What? You think I took one of the only non-provocative images of a golden saint to ensure you guys only had provocative stuff left to work with? I don't want to say you're right, but... ;)

Anyway, do I sign you up for one of these two mad beauties?

Great Fawn, if you need help don't hesitate to ask around. As I've mentioned in the guidelines bit, the classics group could be a good place to start.

I'm not feeling it, so unlikely. But I'll think on it. Kinda feeling that something like a Vigilant's Guide might be more fun, that way the daedra with less established lore could get some anti-love.
