As you all know the new Morrowind expansion for ESO was recently released and allowed those of us who play ESO to go back to Vardenfell, or go there for the first time. Regardless like with every time a new expansion is released for ESO. There’s a whole lot of lore to be gained. Why not take apart some time to discuss our favourite pieces?

I myself haven’t dabbled into the new DLC just yet (I’ll wait for shit to calm down a bit) however, I’ve looked into a few of the sources that were recently added to the Imperial Library and so far there’s some very interesting stuff. I’m sure you can all agree.

So did you find or read anything worth talking about?

Warning: The DLC has only recently released and some of the books added contain some quest spoilers for the DLC. In order to keep the discussions pleasant for everyone, please avoid spoiling your fellow lore scholars.

Before I go rambling, what is the view on spoilers? In my enthusiasm on reading up on the new lore books I ended up spoiling some stuff (I also have not yet played it as I am waiting for PS4) in the quests. I feel like any quest related lore should be spoiler blocked but the regular book lore is fair game?

Yes, keep quest spoilers to a minium for now. The other books are pretty much fair game.

    Cool.

Oh man, Truth in Sequence is super cool. It's great to get some high Sotha Sil lore. I have yet to form an overall breakdown of it, I'm sure it will take a few read-throughs to digest it properly but I will try and do a write up of it on here. As expected it's very Dwemer-centric but in true Seht style, repurposed for his own ends. I see some irl influence from System Theory, Mechanical Philosophy and Taoism.

A small thing I have been thinking about and wondered if others had thoughts, is the etymology of some of the terms he uses. Especially these two:

    Anuvanna'si

Which seems to be his end-goal.

    Fabri'siraynosim

Who he calls his second children.

    Anybody got any throughts?

I will have to catch up with you guys on this subject, and that kills me :D But like I did with Orsinium, I want to get stuck in when I get to play it and learn the new stuff as I go in more organic fashion. Then I will be on a proper new-lore dive :)

I don't really know what to say on these names, they don't sound exactly like Dunmer or Dwemer names (probably more Dunmer/Chimer than Dwemer to be honest). If you're thinking of IRL etymology, maybe we'll have to take a closer look at the meaning of these words and go from there.

    Anuvanna'si

Anu - Obviously a reference to Anu the Everything but I'm not sure if it's literal or metaphorical. Like is it using Anu to say Everything in the same way Herma Mora is used to say Secret Knowledge?

Vanna - Not sure. Might be related to Telvanni but where Vanni is plural Vanna is singular? Tel means tower but the problem is I have no idea what Vanni means. In the Khajiit langue, Va means To Be and in Falmeri it means either To or People, it's hard to tell from Calcemo's Tablet.

Si - The Si in almSIvi. Daedric rune of Seht representing Sotha Sil.

    Fabri'siraynosim is harder.

Fabri - Obviously Fabricant or maybe Fabricator since these are his "second children" and seem to be much more intelligent and are called Key Lords.

Si - Again Seht. It might appear twice, at the start then again at the end. Although the second one has an M at the end so maybe it's Sim like simulant?

Rayno - No idea what this is.

Well, for Anuvanna'si we've got an idea for two out of three syllables, maybe there's a way to fill the gap. So far we've got Si/Sotha-Sil and Anu. If we go with Anu in a more metaphorical sense perhaps Vanna could stand for unity (wouldn't exactly fit with Telvanni, but I've got a different theory on that one). That would get us Sotha-Sil's union of everything or something along those lines. This would be a very simple solution but who knows it might work.

However if Vanna would indeed be, as you suggest, the singular of Vanni, it would have to have something to do with the Telvanni. so what would Vanni stand for? We've got Tel as tower and as such there's a near infinity of options. From Towermages to something related to the fact their towers are made out of mushrooms (just as a bit of a biological fact, Telvanni live in the reproductive organ of their mushrooms, think about what that means). Without knowing what Vanni stands for there's no way of clearly defining Vanna if the two words are indeed one and the same.

As to Fabri'siraynosim... Yeah I'm not all that well versed in Sotha-Sil's sphere of lore. I know he lives in the clockwork city, have a vague idea of what that is and know he has what are essentially intelligent animunculi or cyborg-like life forms... yes that is over simplified and most likely wrong in parts but that's what I remember from stuff back in Morrowind. Anyway, not sure I can help you with this one Veloth.

New lore that has been mentioned is that the old Chimer language was related to Alyelidoon. I wonder of any of these terms match up to any Ayleid words? I had a quick look on the wiki and couldn't see anything that stood out.

Chimer and Ayleid fargmented from the Aldmer at different time periods right? Which begs the question as to why their languages would be similar. My first guess would be that it might actually be a lot closer to old Aldmeris than the Altmer would like you to believe, the other is that both peoples had a lot of dealings with the daedra in one way or another, could it be that they are both flavours of Aldmeris mixed with Daedric?
