This happens again and again it seems. Talos replaced Shor in the eyes of Mortals. Shor was the god of Mankind, but with him slain and falling out of favor Talos has risen into that position. Talos stands for the ideals of humanity.

That doesn't mean Talos is a substitute for Lorkhan. Talos is almost irrelevant to Lorkhan's endeavor except for the fact that Tiber Septim achieved CHIM (which is a step he didn't mean to take). As far as we know, Talos knows nothing about Lorkhan's truth.

Any further importance Talos gains is in holding up the world if the Thalmor are destroying the Towers.

So it's not just me who thinks so))) The poor dude just wanted to rule all of Tamriel)

Why would they do that is beyond me, it was their ancestors who built the Towers, why would they want to destroy them?

Destroying the Towers has just become a shorthand way of saying what's really going on I think. The Towers just repeat the music and constantly riff on what has happened before. When a Tower falls all that really happens is that the music is ended and no longer repeats.

This could be dangerous because that music is the story and when all the music ends the world will cease to be. Or it could be that when the Towers fall the story can be re-written. I guess it depends on who's doing the demolishing but for certain is that a Hero plays a role in preventing disaster each time.

It gives a new significance in my eyes to Auri-El allowing the player to take the bow and why you walk the Chantry. Five wayshrines, five steps, leading to enlightenment, the significance of the number 5 again. What is the fifth step symbolically to achieving divinity? Oh yeah, CHIM. Auri-El: Oh, you made it.

Very nice. Can't say I spotted those fives  Head-cannoned!

Well, a hero plays a role, but is it really preventing it? Most of the Towers have been deactivated or destroyed already and no hero prevented it. It seems like these heroes' purpose is more likely to prevent the disaster that comes with the deactivation of a Tower, i.e. stopping the people who would cause even further destruction, like Dagoth Ur, Mncar Camoran, Alduin etc.

This raises a question: are the Towers destined to be destroyed?

Not destined. Nothing is destined yet. Amaranth might work this time.

Does it mean that if the Towers fall it won't work?
