    Hi :)

On this platform we are able to sort pictures into folders. This is is a fairly straightforward process when uploading pictures, the screenshot below shows exactly what you will see when you navigate to the "Add New Photos" sub tab in the Photos section:

You will now need to find your recently uploaded picture in the relevant album and give it a name.

Any picture you upload to forums, groups, blogs or sent via PM will automatically generate a new album and before you know it you will have dozens of albums of the same name. To demonstrate this, the screenshot below shows what has happened to "My Albums" after uploading the image above directly to this page:

Pictures, then, now need a bit more management if you want to keep all your stuff neatly categorised. This is easy to do, simply use the "Manage Photo" option on the right hand side of the screen and select a folder to move it to from the "Move To" dropdown box:

    Sharing and Tagging

Any picture you upload will no longer be added to the activity feed. instead we now have a Share and Tag system. To get you new picture to appear on the feed you will need to share it.

    See!

There is also the tagging option which allows you to tag a spcific friend so that they recieve a notification. This is handy if you have made something for another and also want to display your work:

I just tagged Todd. He should receive a notification and the image is now on the feed.

There is no limit to the number of times you can share a picture or tag someone. It is entirely possible to clog the feed:

Obviously we need to avoid spamming the feed, so here are a few guidlines on pictures, tagging and sharing.

    • Only "Share" a picture when you first upload it. Allow a period of twelve hours to elapse before sharing it again.
    • When using the tag system, try and ensure you tag all the people you want at the same time. By deleting all tags and re-tagging, you will adding that picture back to the activity feed.
    • Spamming is against site rule number 1: Do not spam the site!
    • Because PM images will also go to an album, you need to be careful to abide by site rule 5: "Do not post anything banned in Ning's Terms of Service, images or links of a pornographic nature, or anything that contains links to or attempts to endorse illegal activities." Make sure you find that album and delete if you do send innapropriate content privately. The Screenshot below shows this in action:

I hope this short guide helps, any questions or comments please leave below :)

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but either way.  I've been fiddleing with one of me Character Builds that transferred over, and I'm trying to add the pictures that i used back into the build.  However the edit tool will not allow me to add the pictures (there is not Upload option).  Is there anyway to add pictures into existing builds?

I could upload when I started my WiP but not afterwards. There's no uploading after its published, I suppose. Probably need to upload and link it manually.

    Quick question or two...

Is there going to be a daily upload limit for photos as we had on the old platform? Would it only need to affect shared photos, as if we are not sharing the photos, and instead using them to re-arrange albums and update discussions/blogs, we wouldn't be overloading the activity feed?

Tried using the "Who can view this album - Just Me" function, but not sure what the point of the option is if everything is public?

And finally, do we know what the compression setting is on uploaded photos? On ning I uploaded my page background rather than linking to an external site, for two reasons - one: if anything happened to the original image, my background remained untouched, two: extra web traffic was not placed on the originating web server.

I'll tootle off to my little area and play with some more CSS for a while...

I just checked your folders Meli, and while I could see the cover image and the album I couldn't actually access it, so it's definitely private, as in only you can see what the images are, but everyone should be able to see that the album exists (which might be kind of annoying).

Thanks DB, that's reassuring on the folder front and could be a good way then for keeping blog/build and discussion art tidy if the pictures are uploaded as a batch to an album rather than adding it to a post initially. :-)

What is the size limit to upolad a photo directly to a post or comment?

That one is 213 KB but does not show. Is 200 KB the limit or is it even lower?

(edit) I assumed the little broken box would show up but it didn't. I uploaded a photo before that last sentence.)

How do I use a photo in a post that I have already uploaded to an album?  I tried "insert photo" with the http address but I just get a box with the title I used, no picture.  I noticed that uploading photos to an album yields higher quality images than using the upload button in a post.  I'm sure there has to be a way to use photos you have uploaded, but I can't figure it out.

Hi Jynna :) It could be that you need this tutorial on Advanced Albums and Clickable Images. Sorry for the confusion, the Advanced Album plugin was added after this tutorial was written. Give it a try, let me know if it makes sense, if not I will see what I can do to improve it :)
