Design your own Vault experiment!

    This game is simple:

You are a member of Vault-Tec who has been tasked with creating a new Vault with a unique social experiment.  What is your population, your manipulation, and your predictions?

So come!  Indulge your slightly sadistic social scientist self and create a Vault!

Build a vault set all the inhabitants on fire and see how long they survive.

    Fun!

My Vault goes like this. Only families of 4+ are allowed access. Its overcrowded, like extremely. The place is really nice, but you can't enjoy it because there's like twice as many people as there should be. You can move to a nicer place, but you can only choose one family member to go with you, but only if you request it first, while the other 2+ have to move to an entirely different section, with strict, dormitory/barracks style sleeping arrangements, and are even more crowded. However, the food is great and there is tons of free time for entertainment. What constitutes a crime varies day by day. The only way you can see the family members you don't pick is by sending the one you did to the barracks. Moving in and moving out are punishable by jail time and beatings for the one who moved one in/out. The purpose of this Vault is to see how far a parent/guardian will go to protect/help their children. They will be let out of the Vault after 100 years, and it will be seen if they continue this lifestyle, or totally abandon it.

Population 5,000, fill it with violent movies and video games, and see how they react t this, and also, give them lots of nuka cola, but only two bathrooms on each level, and little toilet paper

How will you instigate the civil war?

Hmm, testing parental instincts with cruel separation methods.  I like it.  I imagine that Vault would have a lot of powerful notes and audio logs in it.

Thanks. I really had to pull out all the sadism for this one.

I agree. That would be a dang nice mod if I had any talent for the sort of thing.

Are you a writer by chance?  Because I would like to see this come to life.  Maybe tell the story from the perspective of a Lone Wanderer entering an exploring the vault, or maybe telling it from the perspective of the Overseer.  I think it's fertile ground for a nice short story.  Or, tell it from an overhead view (I don't know writing lingo), so that you capture the stories of multiple families.

Another, separate the vault in two. Act out a zombie apocalypse scenario. Give one side guns, ammo, meds, etc, with reinforced doors, and the ithe,r ou p them with chems and hallucinogens, and see which side survives, population about fifty or sixty thousand.

Another is a smaller vault, about seven thousand people.the only books they will have are porn and catalogs.

Hmmmmm. Big vault, plenty of food, water and entertainment. One person, and every free bit of wall, ceiling, etc. has mirrors on it.

I was about to write about one like that. Weird. That is an amazing idea.

Maybe give the vault long-lasting power, hide the armoury and give the residents access to the cloning machine. Let's see if the "Gary incident" plays out in this one too...

Yes! Retest the Gary Incident. That's good. Watch it happen with another person named Gary too...

Hmmmmmm, I'd have a Vault where The Computer runs the show, after all The Computer is our friend!

Sounds like there's some sinister brain-washing scheme here...

For Live Roleplaying: Fallout I wrote up the story of Vault 72, located in the heart of The Motor City, what's left of Detroit after the bombs fell. Without spoiling too much, the social experiment involved low-grade genetic manipulation with a sociological bent (not for medical reasons) and it resulted in what is now the largest group of slavers and cannibals in the Michigan Wastes.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned what seems to me to be the obvious answer

Namely, that you'd make a Vault that would be filled with members of this site!

Todd would, of course, be Overseer. You'd have Tae-Rai conducting experiments on lizards in a Science Lab. Mason would be surfing for scantily clad women, and Curse Never Dying working on character builds.

And there'd be a special cellar area filled with all the banned members from the past few years

Why dream up a 'fantasy' Vault - we already have the Tamriel Vault as the ultimate social experiment

Paul this is amazing. The only bad thing is that in the Vault there would be like two thousand people who came in, took a bed, then napped and never woke up.

And we'd all be split up into different factions or "groups" and the hosts would have real power over people

I think it's fair to say they left. I do wonder how we would expand though. In the context of a physical vault, we would have finite space. It might be fair to say we've expanded above ground at this point to compensate for the booming population since I doubt we'd have the tools to dig out rock and install steel. So we're basically ahead of the game and our Vault exists in Fallout 4 as a settlement.

This sounds really maniacal Golden. I seriously couldn't help but read this with a mwahaha at the end.
