Author’s note: The chapter has not been edited except for odd mistakes and errors therefore the content may change at a later date although the plot will remain the same. The content you read now is as I written it in 2014-2015. I hope this fact doesn’t lessen your enjoyment.

As always, should you see an error or something you feel is off then by all means let me know.

    Sotek Loyal Hound of Hircine

Early evening, just as the Companions, Farkas, Vilkas and the two Whelps were settling down at the campsite by the lake, Bjorlam the carriage driver pulled the reins to the horse Chestnut, stopping the carriage along the road by the plains.

“We’re here, but I wished I knew why we’re here”.

“Information; at least I hope there’s information”. Sotek stated as he and Aela dismounted from the carriage. “We won’t be long”. He said, reassuring Bjorlam as he and Aela headed off across the plains into the night.

Within a few minutes Sotek had his eyes set on other things.

“Hey, there’s some deer about. Why don’t we get a quick kill in? There’ll be no telling when we can eat next”.

As Sotek fell silent, Aela shot him a look then turned as she sniffed the night air. She snapped out her orders, fast and hard.

“We’ll make it quick; no messing”.

Within a few seconds she had changed then Red went off bounding across the plains. A few seconds later though Red stopped and waited. Scarface came running towards her, then came to a halt a few feet away. Red moved close to him and nuzzled his maw then she nudged him with her shoulder. A second later she was off once again hunting her prey.

Red pounced on her target tearing into it. The stag died almost instantly then within a single heartbeat Red fed off the corpse. Scarface leaped up and landed squarely on the second deer, crushing it under his weight as his claws ripped into the soft fur. Without any sign of a pause he ran straight at a third deer, ripping into its back as he easily forced it to the ground. Before it was even killed he started feeding off it ravenously, as his claws and fangs flailed off chunks of meat. Moments later he started feeding off the second deer, but this time his fangs bit through the hind legs of the deer, leaving the chest and stomach alone. He ripped off a whole leg then proceeded to consume it. Afterwards he dragged the remains of the corpse over to Red then he backed away.

Red fell to all fours then began feeding off the second deer, her claws easily tore open the chest allowing her access to the heart. Scarface stood back, content to watch her as she ate. When she her meal she slowly walked up to him then held him as she rested her head in his chest. She looked up at him then started howling out, a single low long howl which Scarface joined in with. The two werewolves howled out at the night, telling everyone out there on the plains that they were there. Aela changed back, she stood there for a second holding him in her arms before she pushed Scarface away as she broke her hold on him.

“You can’t stand around here all day! Move yourself”.

Sotek transformed to his Argonian form and watched Aela walk off. The Huntress set a fast pace, causing Sotek to run every so often just to keep up. Soon enough though they arrived at the overhang, she stood there right in front of him holding out her hand as she demanded that he returned the ring to her.

“I want my ring back; it’s mine! You gave it to me”.

Silently Sotek went to remove it but he realised it was still in his pocket, he pulled it out then handed it over to her. She snatched it out from his hand then Aela stood there staring at it, her anger dissipated as quickly as it flamed up.

“What the hell is wrong with me?” She went to hand it back to him but Sotek refused it.

Sotek gently wrapped his arms around her, she rested her head in his chest like she had always done, as he spoke quietly to her.

“What is all this about? The ring?”

    Aela shook her head.

“No, it’s me. I… oh Hircine, I don’t know”. her voice suddenly trailed off as her senses pick up something in the air. Suddenly she snapped at him once again. “Who in the Hunting Grounds has been here? Damn you! Who have you had here?”

Sotek snapped back at her defensively.

“What? You, I only ever come here with you. You know that! What in the name of Oblivion is up with you?” He tried not to but Sotek couldn’t hold it back, he suddenly found himself shouting back at her. “You know damn well that I don’t come here with anyone else”.

Aela shouted straight back at him as she punched him in the chest.

“Yea? So, where the hell do you take them then?”

Sotek walked to the campfire log. He sat down there and sat thinking quietly for a minute. Once he put his thoughts in some sort of order he spoke to her, barely whispering as he did so.

“Aela, take who? I only see you, you know that. Come on, you know that, don’t you?”

Aela stood still with her eyes closed tight as she tried to regain her composure.

“Yes, I know, I really do know. By Talos, my heads so messed up lately. Some bastards been here, I can smell them”.

Sotek stood up then approached her cautiously. Slowly he held her in his arms once more.

“The fire, it’s still warm. I could feel the heat when I was sitting down”.

Aela put the ring on then changed back to Red. She gently broke away from his arms then examined the bedding, sniffing the straw and the air as she did so. She then savagely growled out at Sotek, drawing his attention to the bedding. Following her lead, Sotek transformed to Scarface. As soon as he changed his senses became sharper; he could smell the same scents as Red could. A Nord and someone else had been here, as well as the Argonian Veezara. Unlike the others though, he never approached the actual camp. His scent trailed off towards the river. The other two scents didn’t trail off at all. They had slept here, in Red’s and Scarface’s bed. The musky smell of their lovemaking hung in the air. Red howled out long and heavily showing her anger at the defiling of their home. This was their place, their sanctuary, and it had been invaded by these unwelcomed intruders.

Sotek changed back after trying his best to commit the scents to his memory then he walked past Red and made his way to the fish rack that stood by the stream. As he did so he noticed a gauntlet in the grass. Picking it up, Sotek couldn’t help but notice it had his mark on the side; a small snake in the shape of a large S. He discreetly placed it in his backpack as he tried to remember when he made it but the truth was that he had made so many over the past six months that now he had no idea even if he had dropped it himself or even Aela.

Examining the ground directly underneath the fish rack, he wiped away some earth which discreetly hid a piece of slate, as he removed it he uncovered a pouch which was inside a small hole which the slate had been used to seal up. Upon opening it up he produced a roll of parchment. “It’s from Veezara. The assassin being sent to Solitude is an Argonian, he doesn’t know who. The wedding reception is of ‘Vittoria Vici’ and an ‘Asgeir Snow-shod’. Do you know them?”

Aela changed, he could see she was far from happy with the current state of their home. She spited the intruders through clenched teeth.

“I’m going to find out who has been here! I’ll show them what it means to be defiled! By Hircine and Red’s claws and fangs I’ll tear out their beating hearts and shove them down their bloody throats”.

Sotek gulped as he saw the look on her face, but he repeated himself trying to get her attention.

“Aela, Vittoria Vici and Asgeir Snow-shod. Do you know them at all?”

“What? No, maybe. Some bloody lar-de-dar tart from Solitude and a pompous Nord buffoon. Why?”

He shook his head at her, then walked over to where she was standing.

“Because their the targets, or rather she is. We’ll sort this out later. I promise I’ll find out who has been here. Come on, we’ve got to move; we only have two days”.

“The scents still strong, follow me”. She demanded as she started following the trail south across the plains.

Sotek grabbed her arm then near instantly let her go as she turned and glared at him.

“We can’t, we haven’t the time. Aela we don’t have the time, the day after tomorrow, that’s when the reception is. I’m sorry, this annoys me as much as it does you, but we have to move”.

She cursed out loudly as he dragged her away. Once they got back to the carriage Aela climbed in the back but she never said a word, she just sat there fuming with rage as she looked out across the plains scanning for any signs of the two intruders. Sotek sat in the front next to the driver, he decided that she needed time to be alone and besides the mood she was in, he honestly felt the front was a lot safer.
