War for an Emperor Prologue: Messages of War

  • 4E 201

They speak of the Great War but rarely do my fellows speak of the true horrors of war. They speak of peace and treaties but never do they mention the blood that soaked the ground, covered the dead and dyed our clothes in a single, crimson colour. It may have been 30 years, but you never forget the horrors of killing over and over again, just so your precious Emperor can live another day in royal peace. You never forget, for the nightmares, they stay to taunt you forever, repeatedly showing you death and decay, of faces nearly forgotten in the blood of battle, until a mere dream sends you back to each and every one of them. This is the truth of the so-called Great War, the bloody battles and fearsome foes. The true honour that they speak of, and of my own story, within the dungeons of the Dominion

    Leyawiin has Fallen

War has begun. Without warning the Aldmeri Dominion have crushed most of southern Cyrodiil in a surprise attack, devastating the countryside, completely taking over Leyawiin and moving on towards Bravil. Luckily we have been able to prepare a defense for the citizens of Bravil and if the nine grace us, we’ll be able to defend it while a larger army is prepared.

With our latest report, we have heard of a confirmed 2000 deaths of military and citizens alike. A lone soldier was able to get to Bravil and the Imperial City to warn them of the attack . Giving precious days for Bravil to survive the initial support, and for the Emperor to send out official aid to nearby towns. Without the actions of this one man, the Empire may very well have fallen. We here at the Black Horse Courier send our thanks to the newly promoted General Tullius and wish the best for the peoples of Bravil and Leyawiin.

    Hammerfell Hardships

We here at the Black Horse Courier have been asked why the other Imperial Provinces have yet to send help. Envoys from Morrowind, Skyrim and Hammerfell have all been sent to the Emperor, and the reports from Hammerfell have been released to us. It appears that while the Aldmeri Dominion devastated Southern Cyrodiil, they’ve also sent a large force past Anvil and Skingrad to attack into Hammerfell, where they quickly gained entrance into the country, and have started their war against the Redguards.

With this information, we hope that you, the people can understand why Hammerfell has yet to send aid. This situation is just as dire as our own, and we would like to send our prayers to them as well. May the Legions stand strong, and the Dominion crumble.

    March of the Legions

As of today Bravil has officially been sent reinforcements from the Imperial City, Skingrad and Kvatch in order to prolong the siege, keeping the city safe, and slowing the onslaught of the Dominion forces.

While that Legion marches towards Bravil, the cities of Bruma, Chorrol and Cheydinhal have all sent reinforcements to the city considered to be in the biggest danger, Anvil. Where the Dominion is most likely to strike next from sea. At the Black Horse Courier, we thank the Emperor for his excellent leadership during this time of war.

    Dunmer Disaster

We here at the Black Horse Courier were just sent an announcement that we couldn’t help but send out. The Dunmeri ambassador has recently ended talks with the Emperor claiming that they simply didn’t have the power to help out Cyrodiil at the moment, that the explosion of Red Mountain still causes problems, and that the mass immigration  of Dunmer to Skyrim and Cyrodiil and the in-fighting between the Great Houses has simply bled the country to the point where they can only defend their borders.

An understandable set of circumstances, which has still led to outrage from parts of the Imperial Council, members have been heard accusing Dunmer of being spies, traitors and other insults due to this announcement.

We hope that these actions do not spiral down into the rest of Cyrodiil, at a time where we need to be fully united against a common enemy. The Dunmer of Cyrodiil are not to blame for this decision, so hate should never be directed towards them. Turn this anger against the Dominion, who have forced us to be this desperate.

    Emperor Titus Mede’s Speech

We here at the Black Horse Courier, are beyond honoured to be given permission to print the Emperor’s Grand Speech across the land. Just this week we were given the word that he would be giving a speech outside of White-Gold Tower, and we rushed our scribes from Skingrad over to the City in order to get a detailed account. Below is our direct copy of his speech.

"My people, I never dreamed that it would come to this day. A day where chaos and war are chosen over peace and order. When those we once called friends, betrayed us and sent their armies to terrorize the good people of our land. But that day has come, and on this day, I weep for the lost souls of our families and friends in Leyawiin and Bravil. For that is what they are, they are family to all of us, no matter what race, gender or creed. This is not the time for hate or distrust to grow between the people of Cyrodiil, or all of Tamriel for that matter, because when that happens...Then we shall fall. I swear to you, citizens of Bruma, of Cheydinhal, of Anvil and Kvatch, of Skingrad, Chorrol and Skingrad, and those of Leyawiin, that I shall do everything within my power to end this war, and to bring peace back to our land."

Emperor Titus Mede is truly correct with his words. Let the family of Cyrodiil live on, while our would-be oppressors and destroyers are sent away by the force of our Legions.

    Bruma Conscription Notice

This is an Imperial Conscription message, ordering all men between the ages of 16 and 40 to report to General Axius at Cloud Ruler Temple to begin training to combat the threat that the Dominion brings to our fine land.

A pension of 100 gold per week shall be given to every family for each member that is drafted, as well as a payment of  100 gold per week to the soldier themselves. Any man who attempts to flee this conscription shall be given a 20-year prison sentence to be carried out after the war unless a due reason is given.

    4E 201

This is where my tale begins. In a war-torn land, ravaged by the Aldmeri Dominion. Bravil, nearly taken over or destroyed. Leyawiin, completely taken over in a mere day and a country gripped in fear and death, as they prayed to their god that they weren’t destined to die.

But my tale truly begins, in the city of Bruma.

Thanks Phil, the Black Horse Courier was a bit of a tack-on halfway through but I think it added a fair bit of realism to it.

Thanks Lissette for the kind words. The Prologue is going to be vastly different from about 99% of the story though, so Chapter 1 might be a better show of what will happen.

This has the makings of a grand story. I like military-style stories a lot and I enjoy writing battles, both large and small scale. I really look forward to how you're handling the Great War. I also really like the inclusion of letters and notices and the...  more
