    Chapter 12: Taken

Val, Aela and J'huzho slowly opened the the doors of High Hrothgar and carefully looked inside. They entered the fortress and got to the main chamber.

    "Hello?" said J'huzho.

"Be quiet." said Aela to him. "This is a sacred place."

"This one didn't mean to offend anyone." said J'huzho.

"It's empty." said Val as they got to the center of the chamber.

"It is not empty, child." a voice from the other room said.

The trio turned towards the voice and saw four old Nords walk out of the other room. The Nords were wearing grey-blue robes. The Nords surrounded them.

One of them spoke. "We have summoned the Dragonborn, and here he is." he said.

"Here she is." spoke out Val.

"Ah, you are young. You have much to learn, child." said the Nord.

"What do you want with me?" asked Val.

"That comes later. For now, let us taste your voice." said the Greybeard.

    "Hmm. HELLO!" yelled Val.

The Greybeard chuckled. "Not that voice. The Dragon Tongue." he said.

"I can't speak the Dragon Tongue." said Val.

"Yes you can. You have touched the Word Wall. You have absorbed a dragon soul. You can shout." explained the Greybeard.

Val was quiet for a moment, thinking. And then. "FUS!" she yelled and the Greybeard got pushed back.

Aela was shocked. Val really was the Dragonborn. She took out her sword and kneeled before her. "It is an honor to meet you, Dragonborn." she said and stood back up.

J'huzho was still standing in the same place. "This one doesn't want to get his knee dirty." he said.

"What happened!?" asked Val with shock on her face.

"You have used the Voice. You have the dragon blood which allows you to speak in their tongue. By doing that, you unleash words of power, shouts if you will." explained the Greybeard.

"Wait. I don't even know you people." said Val.

"I am master Argneir, speaker of the Greybeards." said Argneir. "We have called you here so taht you can begin your training in the Way of the Voice, and stop Alduin."

    "WHAT!?" asked Val.

"I know that this is all new to you, child. But do not fear your destiny." said Argneir.

"How am I going to stop Alduin? He's a GOD!" said Val.

"Follow the Way of the Voice." said Argneir. His words were met with silence. He could've even hear a small cricket that managed to find it's way into the fortress.

"I see that you require more explanation." he said.

"Several books would be enough." said J'huzho.

"The Khajiit may be right." said Argneir.

"If you stay with us here for a few days, we will be able to teach you everything you need to know to begin your path towards defeating Alduin. If you're willing to stay." said Argneir.

"I think you should do it." said Aela.

"The rest of you cannot stay." said Argneir.

"I'm not staying here without Aela." said Val.

"I am sorry, Dragonborn. But this is a place for the Greybeards and the Dragonborn, not warriors and thieves." said Argneir.

    J'huzho raised his finger. "Assassin."

"Then it's no place for me either." said Val and turned around. In a few moments they were outside the fortress.

"Let's get back to Ivarstead. Theryn must be worried about us." said Val.

Night fell as they returned to the village. They entered the tavern but Theryn was nowhere to be found. They approached the innkeeper.

"Excuse me, but, have you seen a High Elf with a sword and a shield?" asked Val.

"Check the room." said the innkeeper with an angry voice.

The trio was shocked when they entered the room. The chair and table were lying on the floor, broken. There were holes all over the walls, and seven bodies lying around. Theryn was not among them.

"What happened here!?" asked Aela and turned to the innkeeper.

"Vampires. 13 of them came in here and asked for the Elf. They fought him and managed to knock him out before taking him away. As you can see, he took out several as well. He fought like a force of nature. They told me to stay quiet or the Volkihar will tear the village apart. So, I just closed the door of the room." explained the innkeeper.

"Your friend would be a great help to the Dawnguard." said J'huzho.

"First, we need to find him." said Aela.

    Two Hours Earlier

After a lenghty trek, Theryn has finaly returned to Ivarstead. He entered the inn.

"Can I get 'ya something?" asked the innkeeper.

"What kind of mead do you have?" asked Theryn.

"Honningbrew and Black - Briar mead." said the innkeeper.

"Honningbrew." said Theryn. He picked up his drink and went into his room. After a while, he heard several footsteps outside of his room.

He looked out through the keyhole and saw several poeple talking to the inkeeper.

"...and if you tell anyone about our visit, the Volkihar will tear this pathetic village apart." said one of them and went towards Theryn's room.

As he opened the door, Theryn kicked the doors and drove his sword into the man's chest.

"Oh, you missed the heart!" said the man and he kicked Theryn on the floor.

    "Vampires!" said Theryn.

"It's been far to long since your last visit." said the vampire and twiched his head as the other vampires attacked Theryn.

Theryn jumped up and picked up his sword, just in time to swing it and cut of the head off one of the vampires. He took his shield and attacked the others. After a lengthy battle, he was finaly subdued.

"It's time for you to visit an old friend." said the vampire and knocked him out.
