ESO Short Stories; 03

Elam stared at the very elaborate dish in front of him. He never had seen such a carefully made and arranged meal on a plate. He looked at the younger Dunmer. “You did this all for me?” The shock was still in his tone, but when he eyed the dish he found himself starving – so delicious was the look and smell.

“I was hoping you’re hungry.” Ciel’nn smiled as he sat on the opposite chair. “It’s The Emperor’s Venison Fricassee along with Creamcheese Frosted Gorapple Cake. The drink is Mournhold Twister.” He had prepared it all while everyone from the Sanctuary was away on their business. “Let’s eat before someone sees and joins in.” He grabbed a fork and a knife.

“You don’t want your brethren to join?” Elam asked as begin to eat. “Not that I want them here, but I’d rather dine with you alone.” He seemed to enjoy his first bites of the steak. “This is very delicious, Ciel’nn.” the older Dunmer mused as he glanced at Ciel’nn.

Ciel’nn smirked while he took a sip from his chalice. “We can eat at my house the next time.” It was a slight smooth suggestion for them to have privacy. The younger Dunmer would appreciate it – he could have Elam Drals all for himself the rest of the day. Now that was a splendid idea. He observed the older Dunmer discreetly while he ate. Though, Ciel’nn wondered if his suggestion had come up too early since the other mer wasn’t saying anything.

The older Dunmer was in deep thought as he munched on his food. He wanted to savor the taste. It wasn’t only delicious but also heavenly. He had no idea... “I didn’t know you’re such an excellent cook.” He put a smile on his lips as he took his chalice to drink from it, and he glanced at the young Dunmer with an admiring look. A real fine cook.

Swallowing a piece of carrot and meat down his throat, Ciel’nn tried not to catch a cough. The look Elam was giving him was too distracting. “I had to learn to cook myself because my friend, Vevan doesn’t drink or cook.” he said finally, “He’s a vampire.” He didn’t mind it at all. In fact he had learned all kind of dishes while Vevan kept an eye on him – they were like brothers.

“I see.” Elam murmured. He turned his head as if he heard something. Others were returning to the Sanctuary. So much for the dinner. He glanced at his plate that still had food on it. They would never have more than a half hour to eat here. “I’m afraid others have returned.” he said almost in a sorrowful tone.

“I smell food.” Kor’s voice came from the corridor.

“Let’s leave the rest for them, then.” Ciel’nn replied, and put his chalice away. He let out a deep sigh.

Walking out of the dining hall separately seemed to be a good idea. Elam went ahead and passed Kor who then stopped Ciel’nn. He sniffed the air.

“Is there food left?” he asked gazing down at the young Dunmer.

“Why do you ask me?” Ciel’nn asked in a frown.

“Because you’re the cook! I can smell it.” Kor grinned.

Of course, Kor was a Nord and always after the food. Ciel’nn sighed. “Some left. I need to go.” He left Kor still grinning behind him, and headed to the Sanctuary door.

Going to the spot of Elam’s contract room, he stopped and looked inside. The older Dunmer wasn’t there. Ciel’nn went outside and found Elam sitting at the cliff. He climbed there to sit next to him and pondered why Elam did chose this spot. Ciel’nn looked how the stars started to shine.

“We dine at your house next time then, Ciel’nn.” Elam whispered as he didn’t want anyone else to hear him and he turned his head to the young Dunmer.

it's a clod comfort to know that it's not just Sotek and Aela's plans which are disrupted by 'the rabble'.
Haha  Maybe Elam's home isn't such a bad idea after all.

It was interesting finding out that Ciel'nn is such a good cook! (At least in this alternate universe). I'm really glad to see that Ciel'nn is drinking out of a chalice. ;)
