Chronicles of the Silent Rain- Chapter 3- An Addition To The Company

  • After a nice meal and getting a little bit drunk, Edornas left the inn.

His talk with Faendal revealed that he was ready to go adventuring but he lacked a set of armour and travelling gear. Thinking it as a nice gesture, he decided to get the supplies he needed. He arranged for his armour and gear to be collected from Alvor and Lucan, Edornas walked up to Faendal at the mill and said handing him a backpack and a belt bag.

“Here is your adventuring gear and your armour will be ready tomorrow. ”

    “Erm wow, thank you.”

Edornas stood there for a second remembering a once forgotten memory, he suddenly said.

“Faendal, how would you feel about joining the Silent Rain?”

“Wait are you talking about the Silent Rain, the mercenary company that was wiped out by the Thalmor and haven't been seen in four hundred years? Stop joking around with me.”

Edornas gave him a look of shock and hurt as he replied.

“How did you find that out... Did it fail to tell you that the Grandmaster fled with his beloved? Did it fail to tell you about how he ended up having a long line of about ten descendants? Did it ever tell you about how the mantle of Grandmaster was passed down from son to son? DID IT FAIL TO TELL YOU ABOUT HOW THE GRANDMASTERS FINAL NAME WAS OAKENLOCK?”

It took him a few seconds to realise that he had shouted at the last sentence, in a moment he calmed down and said.

“I'm sorry for shouting, its just...”

He looked out across the river as a single tear fell across his cheek, making its mark on the earth.

“You are talking to last grandmaster of the Silent Rain, I have seen enough for one lifetime having my father killed in a Thalmor raid, my mother captured by the Thalmor filth...My two brothers and sisters... I don't know what became of them. Beleval, Edorfin, Gwilin, Ronthil, Nivenor and Aerlin. I promised I would find them one day and I will. Anyways don't mind me ranting on about my life, back to the questio...”

As he turned to face Faendal, he could tell that a few tears had fell from his face as he then embraced Edornas in a tight hug, he went to speak but Faendal got there before him.

“My apologise friend. I didn't know. I will gladly join the Silent Rain, even if it is just the two of us.”

“Don't worry, Faendal. Our numbers will grow... eventually. Anyways do you wish to talk the plaque willingly, as grandmaster of the company I can't force this on you.”

“Yes, I want to do this. Plus I'll get some extra coin as well.”

Edornas nodded and beckoned Faendal over to the northern part of the mill by a tree.

“We shall begin the plaque...Faendal... Oh shit do you have a last name?”

Faendal smiled at his comment and replied.

“My last name is Rosebranch, Faendal Rosebranch.”

“Ok, Faendal Rosebranch of Riverwood, you are to become the second member of the Silent Rain. You shall work for your pay, the work being evaluated by yourself and if you choose that it is not worthy then you don't take it. You shall draw your sword in defence of your honour, your family and your homeland. You will fight till your last breath joins the world around you and you will never stop watching. Now arise.”

Faendal rose to his feet, as Edornas barked out.

“When do you draw you sword?”

“In defence of my honour, my family and my homeland.”

    “How long do you fight?”

“Till my last breath joins the world around me.”

    “When do you stop watching?”

    “Never!!!”

Edornas then unbuckled a steel sword and handed it to Faendal.

“Once this sword is drawn, you are a mercenary, a soldier for hire, an eternal enemy of the Aldmeri Dominion. Will you draw this blade and join us, as a true elf?”

He saw the blade drawn from its scabbard as Faendal knelt in front of him, holding the blade aloft.

“Rise as an elf, my brother.”

Faendal stood clasping arms with Edornas saying.

    “Is that it then?”

“Yes, brother. You are now an official member of the Silent Rain.”

Faendal's eyes widened with shock but relaxed.

“Well Edornas. I can't wait for our first contract.”

“Oh don't worry, i'll get you trained a bit, then geared up and we can then go.”

    He nodded.

“Also there is a matter of finding some artifacts of the company. I have a few notes and journals which show that the pieces are in Skyrim and some place called Solstheim but I've never heard of that place.”

“Don't worry, we'll find out at some time. Come on, I want an ale, drinks on me.”

Edornas smiled as he followed Faendal to the inn, and tell some stories of his previous mercenary contracts.

Ahh That's who Silent Rain are. Me and Lore are two sides of a river flowing through rapids.
When I first heard about Skyrim Lore I thought it was a list of can do and don't do laws in the cities.
    Well not THAT bad but....

Its an ancient mercenary company who are skilled fighters, spellswords and thiefs. They are honourable to an extent. Ever since Edornas heard of the artefacts and the Thalmor in skyrim he has hoped to rebuild the company. I was thinking of adding more bos...  more

Silent Rain? Interesting... Wonder if this will bite them in the tail later on.
