Skyrim RP series...Danifae (Chapter 8) The journal

  • Sitting back in her chair, Danifae thought about recent events and what she had read in Micah's journal. Zora was sleeping in the bed near the fire and Larkspur and Lydia were upstairs, also asleep. The battle with the necromancers in Fort Amol had drained them all. Danifae had recovered quite quickly, as usual, due to her 'unique' nature but her companions had no such prowess. She had told them all to get some rest. She had slept enough recently and would keep watch.

She was glad that Zora was almost back to her old self. If it hadn't been for her killing Micah, she felt none of them would have survived. She had saved them all and Danifae would be sure to tell her that when she woke up. Danifae had vowed to try enchanting their weapons and armour to better protect them against such attacks. She wasn't much of an enchanter but had read about it and was willing to give it a try. She was also going to try out the Bound Bow spell and get her archery back up to par. Maybe she would surpass her father after all.
Thinking on her father, she hoped her parents were faring well. She couldn't risk sending them a message, considering the things she remembered from her dream. It was probably better they didn't know what had happened to her, at least until Ancano was 'dealt with'
The journal had proved rather interesting. Micah had noted down things about his experiments with both living and dead bodies, which Danifae had found distasteful. But later on in the journal she had noted that Micah had met with a Thalmor agent named Ancano, who would be setting up a camp in the abandoned prison nearby. This was the very prison Danifae had escaped from. Ancano had made a deal with the necromancers. He would provide them with alchemy ingredients and with prisoners from the war if the necromancers would help watch and guard the prison and help Ancano with his own experiments.

Micah had readily agreed to this and this agreement had worked for several months. Then one day, Ancano had come back to see Micah, looking very angry about something. Micah had tried asking Ancano if there was something wrong but he had been very unhelpful regarding information. He had said something like 'that bitch has reassigned me elsewhere in Skyrim, but the agreement still stands'
Now this had intrigued Danifae. Was this the reason he had been absent for some time? He certainly hadn't been back to the prison for a while (she was unsure how long, as she had been blindfolded and gagged at the time) but she hadn't heard his voice or been subject to his experiments in a long time. His agents had apparently been told to keep up the ruse of her being a Talos worshipper, given the number of beatings and whippings she was subjected to.
She had heard other prisoners crying out in the other cells but the voices seemed to change every so often, so she wondered if Fort Amol was where the other prisoners had been taken. It seems she was the only one not invited to be a guest of the necromancers, so it seemed that Ancano had made her the exception.
Micah had noted that one day there had been a fierce storm which was flooding the river and also there had been a gathering of Stormcloaks, which had attacked the prison and the fort. The necromancers had been so busy with their own battles that they hadn't been able to watch the prison. Danifae wondered if this was when she had made her escape, as nobody had come after her when she crossed the bridge.
So now, she knew that 'that bitch' (whoever she was) had sent Ancano elsewhere in Skyrim. She was now more hopeful than ever of finding him and getting answers.

She had also thought again of her dream. The potion had tasted horrible and she had no idea what had been in it. It had caused her some discomfort inside her and after the retching and the coughing she had been left with the shivering. So had the potion done something to her?
Then there had been Ancano mentioning something happening 16 years ago, before she was born? What incident had occurred? It had happened to her mother, by the way she had said she would 'rather have died than go through all this'
She was also worried about the anger she felt inside her. It had helped her to overcome obstacles on a couple of occasions but it seemed that when she was 'in full flow' as it were, all rationality bled out of her and she was like a caged animal, waiting to be unleashed. She couldn't remember ever feeling anger like that when she was living in the Valenwood with her parents, but those were happier times. It seemed like it was only after her capture by Ancano and her subsequent escape that she could remember feeling it. Even when she was in her restraints she was rather passive, except when she was being maimed, and then it was crying out in pain, not anger. She then thought that maybe they had drugged her in some way. Maybe the 'food' had something in it which made her more docile. Or that horrible potion she had been forced to swallow before her capture? Could that have been part of the experiments? Was that why she had been restrained so much, because Ancano was scared of what she could do in her anger?
She felt that she was finally getting some answers to the puzzle, but some were still eluding her, much to her frustration. It was a shame that all the necromancers had died in the battle, so she couldn't question them. But she would find her answers, in time. When she got back to Whiterun, she would ask Danica if she had found any clues.

She was going to search Fort Amol, from top to bottom, for anything she had missed. Afterwards, she was going to head to the Eldergleam Sanctuary to get the sap for Danica and from there she would head up to Windhelm, to see about joining the Stormcloak army and give the Thalmor a bloody nose. Hopefully she would get more information and see where the road would lead...

Still plenty of unanswered questions driving Dani forward. The past seems to be as important as the present here. The one about what exactly Ancano did to her being the most interesting in my opinion.
