An Ayleid's Last Entry

  •           How greatly have we misread the gods, and how greatly have we paid!

I, Tumedendil Loraethahl, of Ayleids, write these words. They may be some of the last words I ever write, and I may be one of the last Ayleids to ever live.

I hope that some adventurer, many years hence, may find my words, and take lesson from the Fall of the Ayleids. I hope that this may yet happen, and that all learning may not die in the days to come.

When my ancestors first saw some of that strange race, which is called Man, they were perplexed. For they saw that the men had legs and hands that were like to ours.

They saw that but for their rounded ears, their faces were very similar to ours. They also soon found that they could be no kin of ours, however distant.

They found them to be an ignorant, short lived race, who pitched tents, instead of building monuments.

What wonders had they? What beauty did they know? Why did magicka not fill them, pouring forth? Did they have anything to compare to our great statues, or our holy wells which renewed our magicka by the day?

What leaders, what government? No, they had no government, and their leaders were Hunger, Fear, and Greed.

My ancestors talked among them themselves, and said that surely such as these could not be our equals, but were made in our image, so that they might better assist us in great works.

And so, we took them as our slaves. But, indeed, it has been said, many came willingly, enthralled by our beauty and power.

This is a tale which has been told many times.

I do not think we ill treated the men, at least not within my tribe, for we served Merid-Nunda, Lady of light and infinite energies. We would not desire to ill treat any living beast.

But, as it known, there arose Alessia, the Rebeller, whom they are calling queen and saint. Saint, they say, because she has received aid from the gods. This may be true, for I cannot see how it could be otherwise. The gods have turned their backs on us, for enslaving Man.

I stand with my own kind. It would be disloyal to do otherwise, and I cannot change what has been done.
Look! The Age of Man is dawning! Night has come!

I like this a lot. Though I feel the Thalmor would hijack this and nail it to every door in Alinor...

Sadly beautiful. I also like the style a great deal. It hearkens to an older style of writing, which I appreciate.
