The origin of a Dragonborn

  • This is the story of my young Dunmer assassin,Atkut.

Atkut had been traveling with his family for days now, they had no idea where to go once they made it to Skyrim. The rest of their family had been killed in the great tragedy that was now Morrowind. He knew where his parents were planning to go for protection, the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary. Atkut could not see his parents as murderers, his mother was a kind, beautiful woman who seemed to care about her children, she took amazing care of Atkut and his younger sister Tikna. His father was wise, and strict, Atkut could never visualize his father breaking the law after all every time he heard of some new thief or murderer being arrested his father would say "Damn criminal, all of  them deserve to be beheaded." but was he himself a murderer, did he deserve to be executed. Atkuts parents had never told they were members of the black hand but after many years of his parents going to the tavern for "special occasions" it became suspicious. One night while his parents were suposedly at the tavern Atkut and Tikna searched thier parents room. Tikna was smaller than Atkut and so she was able to fit under the bed under which she found a small wooden box containing what appeared to be orders from the black hand to kill an old nord named Hulgarth and the next morning when the most recent issue of the black horse corier came sure enough on the front page was the "accidental and tragic" death of Hulgarth. And from that moment on Atkut and Tikna lived with thier parents in fear.

"Mother I'm tired and hungry can we stop now?" asked Tikna  "No my child we cannot stop until we reach Skyrim." "But where will we go once we reach Skyrim, we have nowhere left to go shouted Tikna. "Your father and I have connections in Skyrim, do not worry." said mother suspiciously. Atkut was a strong and young Dunmer and was not easily tired, he was pulling the cart that had what was left of thier belongings in it. "Come here Tikna if you're so tired get in the cart and I will pull you until we make it to Skyrim." "Atkut are you sure you can take the extra weight, the cart is already loaded pretty heavily." said father. "I can handle it Father." "Alright if you say so, only a few more miles to skyrim we should be there in a few hours."

                                       ***

Finaly they arrived in Skyrim, and just as they crossed the border they were held up by two bandits, a Khajiit and Bosmer that looked like they had already gotten a hefty loot from other Dunmer refugees. "stop right there Dunmer" said the Bosmer as he drew an arrow and aimed at Atkut's father "Take the woman" the Bosmer said to the khajiit, before anyone could make a make a move the khajiit leaped in the air and flipped landing behind Atkut's mother putting its devilishly sharp claws to her throat. "Now" said the Bosmer "give us your valuables and we'll be off." "We most certainly will not!" shouted Atkut's father drawing a hidden dagger from under his coat. The bosmer le t his arrow fly and it plunged deep into the the heart of Atkut's father, Tikna screamed and ran into the woods, the khajiit slit thier mothers throat and went after her. Atkut ran for his fathers dagger, he felt his fingers touch the cold metalic handle he gripped it tightly and threw it diving to the side, the bosmer shot an arrow at Atkut, it barely missed scraping Atkut's right eye leaving what would become a nasty scar and permanent blindness. Atkut's dagger however did not miss, it hit its target with pinpoint accuracy, right between the bosmer's eyes. Atkut took off into the woods after his sister, he could only hope she was still alive.

Atkut did not find Tikna but he did find the body of the khajiit with a stick that had been broken off into a sharp point through its abdomen. Atkut roamed the woods for many weeks only eating what little he could find and animals he could hunt, he had used up all the arrows we had taken from the bosmer and he suspected his sister to be dead. one day while hunting he came upon a small cottage in the woods that had a barn with horses. Atkut broke into the cottage, under normal circumstances he would never have broken into someones house but these were not normal circumstances, he was starving and dirty, he had nowhere to go. He smashed the window with his makeshift spear, it appeared that no one was home but suddenly from the barn came a shout "who's out there, you had better get off my property you vandals!" Atkut picked up all the food he could find and stuffed in his backpack as fast as he could but it was not fast enough, as he got to the front door it was flung open by a big muscular nord with a pitchfork. Atkut tried to use his spear but the nord used his pitchfork to pin Atkut's arm against the wall then then the nord quickly pulled out some coiled rope he had on his belt and threw Atkut to the ground and tied him up. The nord hit Atkut across the face with his great fist knocking him out.

Atkut awoke bound up in the back of a wagon heading down a dirt road, the nord was driving. "where are we going" asked Atkut "I'm taking you to Riften and turning you in to the guards" grumbled the nord "I hope they execute you, all the trouble you caused me you deserve it." Atkut thought about this, he could have escaped if he wanted to, the nord hadn't tied the ropes very tight but where would he go there was nowhere for him to escape to. Maybe he deserved to be executed...

Good job, so I suspect that he'll be joining the Dark Brotherhood? "my young Dunmer assassin" lol. But that's interesting, for him to follow in his parents footsteps... if that's what you plan to do lol.

Nice.  . And 1.5 backgrounds for the price of one.  I was going to say 2, but we don't know the rest of Tikna's story.  I will be looking forward to that one.  But what is this strange weapon of which you speak... a 'spear' - never heard of such a thing. ...  more

I like the idea of interconnected characters. I might try to adjust mine to incorporate some. Good idea.

I love Bethesda for giving us the opportunity of putting together our own character histories. This is the first back ground story I have read, and I look forward to reading more from others. Good job by the way.
