Crossover: Chapter 9 - Finding

  • Nigel, San-Kai and Bjorn stood outside Shimmermist cave, they were certain Lucy was inside – after days of searching, today could be the day they finally found her. The cave was accessed by a small entrance amongst several other rocks, Whiterun could be seen in the distance and the sound of the White river was constant. Outside the cave strange decorations made of some black substance hung either side of the entrance, they seemed alien and unworldly to Nigel.

Bjorn filled them in on the cave “It’s a Falmer cave – you can tell by the decoration outside”

    “Falmer?” Nigel asked

“Degenerate snow elves trapped underground by the dwarves” San-Kai replied instantly

“Oh, of course” Nigel added sarcastically

Bjorn continued, “Anyway, where we might find Collins is unknown, he could be in the first chamber or he could be in the last, it depends on how easily he dealt with the Falmer”

Nigel answered this question with total certainty, “Mark Collins is the kind of Gunner who will kill everything”

    San-Kai couldn’t resist thinking, ‘Somewhat like you…’

    “So, we ready?” Bjorn asked

Nigel responded by pulling out his laser rifle and San-Kai readied the flames in his palms, Bjorn pulled out his heavy steel battleaxe and they entered Shimmermist cave.

Nigel coughed as they entered the cave: it was dark, damp, covered in eerie blue lights and it stank horrifically. “What is that smell?”

    “Falmer” Bjorn instantly replied

San-Kai mused for a second “It is more than Falmer; it smells somewhat of rotting corpses”

Bjorn spoke what everyone had thought, “Rotting Falmer corpses?”

They walked down into the first chamber, a bridge was there across a small area of water, a frostbite spider lay dead on the walkway – it was larger than any regular spider Nigel had seen and it’s multitude of eyes looked horrific. Nigel went to examine it: no cuts, no bruises, no arrows or crossbow bolts – only a small hole in its head where a bullet had entered.

“Collins was here, the spider’s been shot”

“Then we’re on the right path, let’s go” Bjorn urged them on, he wanted to get out of this foul smelling cave as quickly as possible.

They walked forwards into the cave, stepping over the dead body of a spider, and went on into the next chamber of the cave. It was a large area that went up onto a hill of sorts. Several Falmer fences and tents were set up, Bjorn warily surveyed the area but he found nothing but the bodies of Falmer, however, their fires  still burnt brightly.

Nigel took a quick glance at one, “Shot as well, and recently too - we’re on the right path”

The group walked up on to the higher part of the chamber and into the length of passages that led to the next, the creepy blue lighting still flooded the cave and the smell was only getting worse as the delved into it. They reached the next chamber; it was a small area with several rocky pillars sticking up from the ground. A lone Falmer lay dead in the dirt, a bleeding hole betraying who put him there. They walked through to the next chamber, a balcony overlooked the area and nothing but bodies were seen – all shot.

The group continued on through the cave and into every single chamber, they all contained dead Falmer or Charuses that had all been shot by Gunner Commander Mark Collins. Eventually, they came to a large Dwarven door, “Remarkable, I didn’t realise there were Dwarven ruins in here” San-Kai commented as they pushed open the heavy door and gazed inside.

Commander Mark Collins stood amongst the bodies of dead falmer and a hulking great Dwarven centurion. Collins held a gun to Lucy’s head, Lucy herself looked horrific and was covered in cuts and bruises, her clothes were ripped and her hair was a mess, upon seeing the group she looked relieved and yet terrified.

Collins spoke in a psychotic voice, “Ah! The group arrive to save the girl, well if you want her to leave this cave without a bullet in her skull you’re going to have to listen”

Nigel spoke calmly and confidently, “Very well, speak”

“I want to know how to get back to my world, the world where I am feared”

San-Kai spoke up now “We honestly don’t know, we’re trying to find out”

“That’s what you all say but you do know - I know you know!”  Collins looked completely insane

“We don’t know, now let her go” Nigel said and drew his laser rifle

    **************

The creator and Calcelmo sat watching the events that were unfolding; the Crossover was still shut down and all they could do was watch.

The creator commented on what had just happened, “This truly is interesting what Mark Collins has done – I wonder if the girl will live”

Calcelmo replied, “My lord if you wish to intervene in some way the Crossover has enough residual power to teleport Collins somewhere else in Skyrim”

    ****************

Collins spoke “You pulling a gun on me Cyborg? I’ll kill her!”

“It’s just a case of who fires first, ” Nigel said with total confidence, he had his targeting system and would undoubtedly win

Nigel blinked three times, entering the targeting system as his eyes lit up red. He lined up one deadly shot to the head and fired; the surprise caused Collins to fire at Lucy. But in the confusion, she managed to duck and the bullet skimmed over her head. The laser flew towards Collins and ever closer to its target of his head.

    Then he disappeared.

Nigel ran over to Lucy instantly, thinking of nothing else “You okay Lucy?”

She managed a weak nod and fell unconscious in his arms; San-Kai walked over and immediately began casting a healing aura as her cuts slowly faded away.  Lucy had been saved and she would hopefully be fine, their days of searching for were finally over.

Bjorn was looking where Collins had been and spoke: “Where’s his body?”

Nigel looked over to the same spot Bjorn was looking at, in the sudden rush to save Lucy he had ignored the fact that he hadn’t been hit and his body was not on the ground. “I shot him with the laser but…”

Nigel checked his kill log that he could bring up on the display of his bionic eyes; the last entry was the bandits at Valtheim towers. “The laser never connected, I didn’t kill him”

San-Kai looked over “Then where did he go?”

It dawned on them all and Bjorn voiced this, “He was crossed over!”

Nigel finished their train of thought, “But to where?"
