The Merethic Tale, Chapter 2 - Venstrunriik's Zul and Alalf's Stand

  • Just as Bjorn's words left his mouth, Venstrunriik let loose a mighty burst of flames from his maw, engulfing the cave, Alalf shouted then, revealing the power of his Thu'um

"DOV YOL SPAAN", his voice echoed around the cave, shielding the men within the cave from the blast of fire. Bjorn watched in horror as several of his comrades that were outside the cave cried out in anguish as their flesh bubbled and blacked before falling to the ground, charred husks of the men they once were.

Alalf stood his ground until the flames cleared, then stepping forward and pointing his greatsword at Venstrunriik and boomed his challenge

"VENSTRUNRIIK, MU LOS FIN KENDOV DAAR FENT NOS HI TUM!" the very ground shook with the power of his voice and Venstrunriik, with a powerful beat of his wings replied as he began to land

"SAHLO JOOR, ZU'U FENT OBLAAN HIN BALAAN LAHNEY FAH HIN NOS WAH DROG ALDUIN'S REL!". Alalf strode forth, a stoic expression on his face, the horns of his helmet glinting in the twilight and the fire that still scorched the grounds after Venstrunriik's blast. He momentarily turned to the Nords behind him and said in his own tongue

"Even if I do not prevail you must live on to fight another day. Flee to Ragnvald, if I survive I shall meet you there. Go now." before charging towards Venstrunriik, his greatsword held high, emitting a battle cry of a true Nord as he grew closer to the dragon.

    Bjorn stood

"Come now, Alalf gave us orders, we must follow them!" he cried to the other Tongues, they began to run, their weapons sheathed at their sides. Bjorn, however, could not bring himself to run, he stood behind a rock and watched as Alalf, the man that he had respected and revered since he joined the band of warriors that he now saw fleeing from battle.

Venstrunriik thrust his jaw forwards, Alalf jumped to the left and swung at the dragon with his blade, it caught the scaly hide of the beast and broke off a shard of scale. The green monster beat his wings and ascended to the air, where he had the advantage, before letting lose a burst of flames towards Alalf, who opened his mouth and uttered his Thu'um

"DOV YOL SPAAN!" the shouted shield forced back the flames, Venstrunriik growled with annoyance, circling overhead before swooping down and grabbing Alalf by the arm and pulling him up, higher and higher until he was far, far above the ground

"Alalf, no!" Bjorn cried out, drawing his sword and shield and charging from his hiding place like a fool. What am I doing? I'll be incinerated! Bjorn thought to himself, unable to control his hatred anymore he let out a shout that he did not even know existed, a shout that echoed and reverberated off and around the mountains like no other had that night

"JOOR ZAH FRUL!!" he cried, his hatred flying from his mouth towards Venstrunriik as he let Alalf drop from his grip, the shout struck him and there was a burst of blueish light and a great roar of anguish from Venstrunriik as he descended, he tossed his head as if panicking

"JOOR, DAAR DUR HAALVUT WAHL NII OBLAAN!" the dragon boomed, his breaths evidently growing fast and shallow. With a sickening crack, Alalf hit the ground, Bjorn looked to him and then to Venstrunriik, then he raised his shield up and charged, ramming his shield against the disoriented dragon, almost shattering the board before bringing his blade up over his head and striking straight into the dragon's eye.

Venstrunriik let out a deafening roar of agony and disbelief that he had be wounded by a mortal

"ALDUIN THURRI, SPAAN DOVAH!" he shouted to the skies as he fell, his brain had clearly be struck by the blade. When the dragon had gone limp, Bjorn wrenched his sword from the eye socket of the beast and sheathed it, he then approached Alalf, who was lying on the floor, struggling for breath

"Kill me, Bjorn..." he wheezed "My spine is broken, I will only be a liability if you take me along", he gasped for air "Please, Bjorn... I beg you...". Bjorn looked at his leader with sorrow in his eyes

"Kinbok... Krosis, Alalf, Krosis.... You fought well" he said, drawing a dagger from his belt and thrusting it into the chest of his fallen master, with a sigh of release Alalf said

"S-Sovngarde..." and he passed from Mundus.

Bjorn sat there in silence for several minutes, gazing upon the corpse that had once brought forth the greatest in all of the warriors he had trained. He then heaved Alalf's body and took it to a nearby river, he then got together all the sticks he could find and muttered

"Gron" causing the wood to knit together to form a raft, he laid Alalf onto it and cast him off, following him for a few footsteps before shouting weakly

"YOL!". The flames engulfed Alalf as he went further downriver, Bjorn watched him go, his charcoal black hair blowing in the evening breeze, his emerald green eyes holding back tears, he must not show emotion, there is not telling what his voice could do.

After paying his final respects to Alalf's spirit as it was guided by Kyne to Shor's Hall and the eternal feasting, Bjorn turned to walk in the direction of Ragnvald, he would meet the rest of the warriors there and tell them of their leaders death and of the mysterious shout that he had uttered. Bjorn tasted the words as he spoke them again

"Joor zah frul..." this could be the key to our victory! he thought to himself. He then turned towards his destination and began to stride on, into the night.

Thank you, Lissette. What research will you be doing? If its on the origin of Dragonrend I've already thought of a way around it :P

Oh, it's dragonrend. I never actually completed the main quest, so I had no idea, even though I put over 200 hours into Skyrim.
